Have you all heard? Great Wolf Lodge is now offering Day Passes to their waterparks. I have confirmed they are available for the Great Wolf Lodge Washington location too (Grand Mound). I will mention up front that in many cases it is still going to be more cost effective for you to get a room (if you are visiting with kids or larger parties). It is a great option if you are a smaller party, or have a family member or someone who just wants to join you for the day though. If you find deals, like the current one on Groupon, it can also make it a fun way to spend the day without having to pay higher prices for a room (especially if you are looking to visit when room rates are higher).
Great Wolf Lodge companion passes have been available for awhile now, where if you are staying in the waterpark you can get a pass for one family or friend starting at $50, per registered guest, if they are just coming to visit you for the day. You will want to call your location to confirm current details on the Companion Pass program, as they may be changing things with day passes now.

Is a Day Pass Worth It?
Well that depends on two things:
A) Do you plan to stay overnight somewhere in the area?
If you are looking for a fun day at Great Wolf Lodge, and you can make it a day trip (vs needing to stay overnight) this can be a great way to enjoy a fun day at the Lodge for less money. There are a few times a year we see hotel rates drop to around this price range, but often it is much more expensive.
Alternatively, if you live close enough to make an easy drive to a Great Wolf Lodge, then this may be a great option to enjoy the water park.
B) What rates Great Wolf Lodge is offering for the dates of your stay?
I recently decided to book a nearby hotel and get day passes to Great Wolf lodge, as it was cheaper for me to do that for our dates of stay, vs booking at Great Wolf Lodge for those dates. My kids are teens, so I don’t have to splurge on the pass for me if I don’t want to – so the math might work out differently for you if you have younger kids. But even assuming you do a 4 day pass at this rate, and get a room elsewhere, but nearby, for $120/nt you are looking at $269 for a day of fun at Great Wolf Lodge and overnight accommodations. If rooms are going for $300-$500 a night (which they often can), then this is an option to save money.
Also, it will depend on how many people you want to buy passes for. For example, their base rooms sleep up to 6. If you are a family of 6, it will cost $240 for the $40 day passes, so if you can find a room for less than that the room is a better deal. But if you are a family of 2 wanting to visit the lodge, $80 will save you big!
Remember that Great Wolf Lodge does have a nightly resort fee, so be sure to factor that cost in when comparing which one will save your family more.
Now of course, when you book directly through Great Wolf Lodge, you get access to the water park on the day of check in and check out, so you will get more waterpark time with that booking – but this is just another option to consider when looking at the dates of your stay, if it is during a pricey time.

How much is a Day Pass at Great Wolf Lodge?
They start at $40 a day, from what we can find, but the price is going to depend upon the day you plan to visit (we found prices as high as $110 a day on upcoming weekends). It sounds like the average will run you around $80 pp per day. At those prices, it is probably more cost effective to get a room, if you are traveling with 4 or more people. Passes are not required for children 2 and under when accompanied by an adult who has purchased a pass, so be sure to factor the age of your kids in when figuring out which option might be the most cost effective for you.
But, right now they have them as low as $40 a day for the passes, which may save you big!
For example, Great Wolf Lodge offers a Family Suite for as low as $139 here on Groupon sometimes. Once you add in taxes and resort fees it will bump that cost up $50+ a night too (and that is a 2 night stay option). The best real deal on one night stays is probably closer to $250 to $300+ after all fees right now. So you will want to check dates you are interested in visiting and see what rates are available to you to make a comparison.
With a day pass you can access the park at 10 am, and then have full access until closing time. If you purchase a room, you can use the waterpark on your check in day, as well as checkout day (so a one night stay provides you access to two days of waterpark fun), which is another thing to consider when figuring out what is best for your family.

More Things to Know about Day Passes
Note that the number of day passes given out per day will depend on the number of guests booked at the hotel (this number will be monitored to keep waterpark visitors at a controlled number). This means they will a) be more expensive and b) be harder to get for busier times at the resort, so plan accordingly. If you plug the dates you want to visit into the day pass calculator, you will be able to see availability and pricing.
You cannot bring in food or drink with a day pass (where you can save on your food costs if you are staying in a room by bringing your own food and snacks). You can bring your own cooler and keep it in your car, and go out there for meal breaks. There are also restaurants in the resort (and one we love in the parking lot that is affordable, and you can read about that one here).
