Easy Guacamole Recipe

Guacamole is one of those things that if you have not made it before it can seem intimidating. It is so easy to make yourself though, and the taste difference to me is huge! Once I started making it myself, I could not go back to buying pre-made guacamole. Its that much better in my opinion.

Plus, did I mention that it is super easy! We show you how to make homemade guacamole here, but we also have two short cut recipes below that are also delicious, taste fresh, and only require a couple of ingredients.

I use guacamole for everything at my house, and find its a great way to get a super food (avocados) into my kids diet. My kids love to dip chips into it, but I love to top my salads off with it, use to dress up Mexican dishes, spread on sandwiches and more. What are your favorite ways to serve up guacamole?

It is also great for entertaining. Its a dish you can make very quickly (and affordably) and bring a big bowl, with a bag or two of chips to a party, and your bound to be a hit. We often use the blue corn chips for our local Seahawk game day parties, to make a blue and green spread!

Here is my favorite Easy Guacamole Recipes:

Next add the cilantro and pinch of salt and pepper and the diced onion.

You can also add finely diced garlic (I do), but you can omit this step if your not a fan of the flavor. Mix it well, and chill for about 30 minutes before serving.

If your short on time, you can also make guacamole that will taste fresh and homemade, but just requires two ingredients: Avocados and a store bought seasoning packet.

Ingredients

  • 2 avocados
  • 1 package of guacamole seasoning (generally found near the avocados in most grocery stores)

Directions

Cut the avocados in half and remove the pit. Scoop the filling out into a bowl and mash it up until its a creamy consistency (you can leave a few larger chunks if you like a chunkier guacamole). Add the seasoning packet, and stir until thoroughly mixed. Cover and chill for around 30 minutes before serving.

Or, make this Quick & Easy Guacamole Recipe Using Seasoned Diced Tomatoes:

Ingredients

  • 2 avocados
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes with cilantro and lime (or you can use the version with green chile too). I generally use Rotel tomatoes.

Directions

Cut the avocados in half and remove the pit. Scoop the filling out into a bowl and mash it up until its a creamy consistency (you can leave a few larger chunks if you like a chunkier guacamole). Drain the can of diced tomatoes and add to the avocados, and stir until thoroughly mixed. Cover and chill for around 30 minutes before serving. If you like your guacamole with tomatoes in it, this is a great simple recipe option for that.

Tips for making Guacamole at home:

Selecting Avocados for homemade guacamole –

When selecting avocados at the store or market, think about when you will make your guacamole. If you plan to make it that day or the next, you will want ripe avocados. If it will be a few days, select them a bit firmer and on the greener side, and that will give them a few days to ripen so they are ready when you are, and not over ripe.

You can generally tell how ripe avocados are by their color and feel. Generally speaking a ripe avocado will be this dark color (but color can vary), and tender to the touch. If its mushy, that is over ripe. Another trick I like to use it to look at the stem area. If you remove the stem at the top, and its green that needs a few days to ripen. If its really dark, its likely over ripe. I like to buy ones that are a nice brown, and feel good to the touch.

Cutting and pitting the avocados for guacamole recipes –

I like to slice mine in half length wise (the long way), and then pull apart. The stick your knife into the pit (make sure you do this on the counter, so you do not cut yourself).

Then simply twist the pit with the knife until it comes out. Once you scoop your avocado out of the skin, I use the skin to grab the pit off my knife.

When adding the juice of a lime, you can either:

Use a fresh lime.

I like to roll my lime before cutting it to release the juices. Then slice it in half and you can either use a spoon to release the juices (hold the lime in your hands to catch the seeds, and press the spoon around in side so all the lime juices fall into your bowl, or a citrus press.

Or you can use lime juice (generally found in the produce isle in a plastic lime looking container.

Or, you can also use lime essential oils. I find two drops is generally perfect for this recipe, but add to taste.
