 Easy Homemade Whip Cream Recipe

Use Mixer or Whipped Cream Canister!

One of my favorite splurges is homemade whip cream! I think it puts the pre-made stuff you can purchase in a can or the cool whip version to shame. It is so simple to make, plus if you grab one of these whipped cream canisters then its even easier and you can make fun flavors.

What is great about homemade whip cream is that you can add it to just about any dessert or drink, and suddenly your friends and family think you are a master baker. You do not have to let them know how simple it really is.

The really easy way to make this is with a whip cream canister (see below for details on that). You can however, also make it with a standard mixer.

Here is how to make whip cream:

make your own whipped cream step 1

Ingredients:

1 Cup Heavy Cream (chilled)

2 tbs Powder Sugar

2 tsp of Vanilla Extract (or whatever flavorings you like –  rum extract is one of my favorites! If your making Lemon cake, try adding lemon extract, etc. )

(Note – these measurments are just one recipe, I make mine to taste. Sample a little and make it more or less sweet according to your families tastes).

I like to make sure that the bowl that I beat my whip cream in is chilled too, it seems to whip up better when everything is cold.

Add your Cream to your mixer bowl. Start to beat on med. speed, while adding powder sugar and flavoring. Then turn your mixer up a notch and whip the cream until stiff peaks form. Make sure not to over-beat, if you want the best texture.

The best thing about homemade whip cream is experimenting.  I have had batches that turned out better then others, but never had a bad batch yet.  One of my favorite shortcut tricks is to make a boxed spice cake (so easy right) and then serve it warm with a drizzle of caramel syrup and topped off with the homemade whip cream made with rum extract instead of vanilla. Your guests will think you went to great lengths for them making that dessert!

And my all time favorite, add a BIG dollop of your homemade whip cream to your coffee (rather then creamer). Mix it in to the coffee (like you would creamer) and it comes very close to heaven in a cup!

You can also buy these Aluminum Whipped Cream dispensers starting at around $18 here.

I love these whip cream canisters, as you can make flavored whip cream in minutes with these (and it is so good). The way that these work is that you add in the whip cream and sweetener (the Torani syrups work well) and then add whip its to actually make whip cream in them. They are such an easy and great way to make fresh whip cream in minutes!

Whipped Cream Dispenser Recipes:

The easiest way to make a flavored and sweetened whipped cream in the dispenser is to use a syrup (like a Torani syrup). This lets you make it with just two ingredients – the whipped cream and the syrup. This is how most coffee shops make their whipped cream.

To use this recipe add the following ingredients to your Whipped cream dispenser-

  • 2 cups of heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup of vanilla syrup
  • Simply add these to the canister, screw on top, add the whip it canister and shake and serve.
  • Store it in the fridge, and use by expiration date on the whipping cream container (shake before using each time).

If you do not have a coffee syrup, you can substitute with 2 tbs of powder sugar and 2 tsp of vanilla extract too.

You can also use other flavors of syrup as well. A few I love in my whipped cream in addition to vanilla, are almond, coffee or kalua flavor and chocolate.
