REI, a great Northwest company, has an awesome summer program for kids to promote outdoor activity!! Their Passport to Adventure program is all about showing kids how fun it is to be outdoors and enjoy the natural world around them!! It’s designed for kids ages 5 – 12!!

Go here to find out all the details!! And if you don’t have kids that are in those age ranges, you might still want to check out their cool map with a list of kid-friendly hikes and bike rides!!

For Washington, they list about 5 hikes/bike rides for each of these areas:: Bellingham, Seattle/ Alderwood/ Issaquah/ Redmond, Tukwila/ Tacoma, Kennewick, Spokane . I just checked it out for my area and found some cool hikes that I definitely want to try (they even tell you if it’s stroller accessible).

Here’s some more specifics on the Passport to Adventure program::

-They will give each child an adventure journal so they can document any outdoor recreation activity they do, such as hiking, bike riding, etc. You can either pick up the journal at an REI store or download it online.

REI has a great database & map of local family-friendly hikes and bike rides (you can get this online or in the store)

-After your child completes just one of the outdoor activities, you send in a card or fill out an online form and they will get a pair of binoculars which have built-in tools (compass, signal mirror, magnifying glass, & more)
