Halloween Candy Buy Back Program

Now that Halloween is in full swing, you most likely will end up with so much candy, you won’t know what to do with it all or maybe you ended up with too much candy after the trick or treaters left. I know I don’t do well sticking to eating healthy with candy in the house and my kids definitely don’t need to eat all that candy.

One way that we use any hard candy that we have left from Halloween is putting it into our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.

Another great idea is the Halloween Candy Buy-Back Program with local dentists around the country. Not only do you get the unwanted candy out of your house, your kids will either make some money or earn rewards & other treats for their candy.  But the best part is that the dentists then send the candy to Operation Gratitude which will distribute that candy to deployed American troops around the world in care packages.

I just checked the locations of participating dentists for the Halloween BuyBack program & there are numerous locations in Washington & Oregon. It  looks like they have increased the number of locations this year.

Here’s how it works:

  • Check out the Halloween Buy Back program website & find a participating dentist in your area. (If you can’t find a dentist in your area, you could always approach your dentist about the program to see if they’d participate next year). Make sure to check out when they will be accepting the candy at their location – they may have special drop-off times.
  • Bring your unwanted candy to the dentist & then they will have a program in place – some dentists may pay $1 / lb of unopened candy; other dentists may offer other special incentives (special prizes, etc) Call your local participating office for specific details on their offerings.
  • The dentist office will then send the unopened candy to Operation Gratitude
  • Operation Gratitude will then distribute the candy to deployed American troops around the world. They will put the candy into care packages so the military men & women can have some special treats while deployed.

Leave a comment if you know of any other Halloween candy buy back programs . Also, share if you have any unique & creative ideas for what to do with leftover candy!
