Pho Recipe – Easy Version of Beef Pho!

Pho is one of my husbands favorite meals. Believe it or not, my kids like it to, because its essentially a very basic beef broth that everyone can add their own spices and seasonings too. The kids like it with very little extra added, and my husband and I pile on the spices. I love it because its full of fresh herbs and broth for the most part. Plus everytime we eat Pho at home, its always fun. Seems to turn into a word play game. “This is Pho-tastic”, “Pho-nomenal” and many other versions I am sure you have heard said before usually accompany a bowl of this soup!

I love this recipe, as its so easy. It does require taking a few short cuts like buying the broth seasoning pack, vs making on your own, but its a great way to start making Pho if you have yet to make it. A quick trip to your local Asian Market, or store where you know you can find Vietnamese grocery items makes this list easy to grab.

Ingredients for this Beef Pho Soup Recipe:

  • Thinly sliced beef (can often find it at your local Asian Market, or use Flank Steak, sliced and just fried in a little oil in the pan)
  • 1 Seasoning Pack for beef pho (often found where they sell Vietnamese grocery items)
  • 1/2 c. of bean sprouts per person
  • 1 Lime
  • Basil leaves (Thai Basil is best if you can get that)
  • 1 Pack of rice stick noodle (these are in the refrigerated section) or 12-Ounce Package of Bahn Pho or Udon Noodles
  • 1 Bunch Green Onions
  • 1 Small White Onion
  • Small Bunch of Cilantro
  • 1 Jalepeno
  • Sirachi Sauce, Chili Garlic Sauce and Hoisin Sauce for serving

How to make Beef Pho Soup:

Prepare the broth according to instructions on package.

Bring broth to a low boil, and then pour in serving bowls and add onions, meat and cilantro to taste to broth

On a separate plate lay out the Bean Sprouts (rinse before serving), Sliced Lime, Thai Basil Leaves and sliced Jalepeno

Once you are ready to serve add the Rice Stick Noodles (or prepare according to package instructions if you purchased a different type of flat rice noodle) and then add to broth just before serving.

Put the plate of bean sprouts, lime etc in the middle of the table, along with the sauces and serve each person a bowl of Pho. They can add the extra veggies and sauces to make the soup their own!
