Guest Post by Stephanie at My Frugal Lifestyle

Hey there, everybody! It’s me Stephanie from My Frugal Lifestyle. I’m so excited to be doing a guest post today. I’m hoping that I will be able to give all you wonderful Thrifty NW Mom readers a FUN FRUGAL TIP at least once a month.

Did you know that you can use plain yogurt as a facial cleanser? Yup! That’s right! You don’t have to go out and buy expensive facial cleaners anymore. Just dip into your fridge and pull out some plain yogurt. The reason why it’s such an amazing facial cleanser, is because yogurt has an alpha hydroxy acid {also known as a lactic acid} that acts as a gentle exfoliant for your skin. By using plain yogurt as a facial cleanser, it also acts as a great moisturizer too. It’s a double whammy! You can’t get better than that! Another bonus is if you use it in the morning, the cold yogurt will act as a stimulant to wake you up in the morning. I always hear about people splashing their faces with cold water in the mornings to help wake them up. This will do the trick for you and you’ll feel so fresh in the mornings.

You don’t need to use very much yogurt either. You’re not doing a facial, you’re just using it as a cleanser. I put a quarter size dollop into my hand and then gently massage it all over my face. This will get your makeup off too! Once you’re done cleansing your face, rinse it off with warm water and pat dry. Happy Cleansing!

Note: If you don’t eat plain yogurt or hardly ever use it for other recipes, then I suggest you buy only the small 6oz plain yogurts. Don’t go out and buy a big tub of it. Yogurt will last a good month or so, but you don’t want to waste money by buying too much {unless you eat plain yogurt as well}.

  1. I have used the Made from Earth Green Tea Cleanser since I was a teenager, when my mom bought it for me. Over the years I’ve tried many, many other cleansers and I always come back to the one from Made from Earth. So, now it is the only one I ever buy.

You can use it two different ways, either by massaging it over your face and then wiping it off with tissue or a wahcloth or rinsing it off with water. It is gentle on my dry sensitive skin and leaves it feeling soft and moisturized. It also removes my makeup, including eyeliner, mascara (unless it’s waterproof), eye shadow, concealer, and face powder, with no irritation. It is very reasonably priced and a bottle lasts me a long time, usually at least 3 months.

I have recommended it to many people who comment on how great my skin looks and feels. I can’t say enough good things about Made from Earth – so glad I found it!

  2. i love using full fat greek yogurt on my skin and body. what i do on my face is massage it on for a few minutes and then steam with a hot washcloth and then splash cool water. my skin loves this.
on my body i will massage it all over and then get into the bath and scrub it off with a salux exfoliating cloth.
    works very well!
