Stitch Fix: New Year, New You – Spend Less by Buying Smarter!

The start of the year is all about a “new you” – new habits, new routins & sometimes, you are wanting a fresh start with a new wardrobe. But if you have spent money on clothes that seemed like a good idea at the time, in the past, but then they stay unworn in your closet – it can be frustrating to waste money.

So, now is the time to try something different – focus on buying smarter – fewer impulse purchase, fewer returns & fewer clothes that don’t actually work for our real lives.

And Stitch Fix is a great way to buy smarter this year! Plus, you’ll get $20 off your Fix AND styling fees waived right now (which are typically $20). And if you decide not to buy anything, you can send it back for free!

Check out the reasons why below (& sharing a few of my favorite Stitch Fix finds)

1 – Less Waste

Do you tend to have a lot of clothes hanging in your closet that you don’t use? I definitely have more than I would like that sit in my closet over the year & I need to thin out & only bring in items I know I will really use.

Here’s a few reasons why we can end up with clothes we may not use as much as we had hoped:

  • Rushed shopping – often shopping while running other errands so we don’t have dedicated time to focus on searching for the best fits
  • Buying for what we think we would use rather than what we will actually use
  • Buying items by guessing on the fit & hoping it will work – because of lack of time to try things on or buying online without trying on
  • Keeping items because it’s too much work to return to the store or online
  • Buying items on sale to save money – but then never wearing it, so it’s wasting that money

2 – Spend Less with a Personal Stylist

By trying to buy items only on sale, rushing to grab items when at the store & not trying on, and guessing whether an item will work with items you already own, definitely can lead to more clothing items wasted & unused. You may end up with clothes that just don’t fit you best & you get them home & wonder why they looked so good at the store, but so different at home.

However, when you use a personal stylist like through Stitch Fix – they can work with you on your style preferences, fit needs, your budget & what type of clothes you need for your life.

I find I get overwhelmed trying to sift through clothes at the store or scrolling thru page after page online. So, I love the fact that a stylist works hard to find items based on what I am looking for & they have the knowledge to curate items that will work well for a number of options.

Having curated items chosen by a stylist who knows what I am looking for helps me to have fewer impulse buys, less trial & error & more options for wearing those items multiple times.

3 – Benefits for Trying Items at Home

Why does it seem like even when things look good at the store, I bring it home & the fit is just off? Or I don’t notice how uncomfortable or impractical it is once you wear it around the house? That means that if it isn’t as comfortable or the fit isn’t what you were thinking, it’s going to end up sitting in your closet.

What I love about Stitch Fix:

  • Try items on home with your own shoes, accessories & other clothing items to see how they work with the clothes you have
  • You can relax & move around in the clothes to see if they really are as comfortable as you think after wearing them for several hours around the house.
  • Use natural light or light within your home. If you want better lighting, head outside & take some photos to analyze yourself & see how it looks in multiple settings

4 – Try Before You Buy = Less Regret

If you love to shop online for the ease & time-saving aspect – the problem with shopping online is that you don’t know if something will work before you buy & then if it doesn’t, it’s a hassle to return & you had to put the money out in the first place & then wait for your money to be refunded. Stitch Fix makes that easy as you can try before you buy – you won’t be paying for the clothes until you decide if you want to keep them!

You don’t pay for anything you don’t keep – and returning items is so simple – just put it all in the  bag  with postage already paid & drop it off at the post office! Simple as that! No regret over buying something you won’t end up using or forget to return!

5 – No Commitment – No Overbuying & No Pressure

Stitch Fix does not require a subscription so it’s just a great way to have curated style picks by a personal stylist or look on their website at their options to see if you find any items. But you don’t have to worry about the pressure of needing to buy on a set timeline. You can schedule a Fix whenever you need items – like for an upcoming event, need a seasonal refresh or just need to update your wardrobe basics.

My Goal This Year: Focus on buying clothes I will actually wear

I’m trying hard this year to be more frugal & buy less, but focusing on clothes that I know I will actually wear. So, I want to be more aware of what times I am buying. It’s not always about buying items on sale or the cheapest option.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized it’s more about quality & practical pieces that I know I’ll love & use.  Stitch Fix is still my all-time favorite way to shop & choose items I know I’ll love because they do such a great job in choosing the items for me based on my preferences & feedback!
