Back in March, I had the opportunity to review & give away a Protect-A-Bed mattress cover to a lucky Thrifty NW Mom reader.  Ever since trying out their mattress cover, I’ve been impressed with their products.  They contacted me again recently about trying out a different product – their pillow protectors & I thought this was a great chance to put it to the test since I have significant allergies….to dust mites (bed bugs – not a pleasant topic, I know!)  I do have other allergies as well, but dust mites are the top allergen for me & the number one place to find dust mites is in your bed.  This is why it’s so important to use a high-quality mattress protector.  But it is just as crucial to use a high-quality pillow protector since this is what will affect your allergies the most since your head is in direct contact with your pillow, with just a pillowcase separating it. You need a barrier to protect you from dust mites.

Protect-A-Bed sent me the pillow protectors to try out & honestly I was a little worried how I would like them.  I have tried out pillow protectors before – my allergist had given me information about ordering them when I was first diagnosed with a dust mite allergy. Let me tell you, those things were not comfortable at all – so crunchy. I am a person who is very particular about my pillows and I like soft, fluffy pillows  – not crunchy hard pillows. So, I’ll admit I wasn’t the best at using those pillow protectors because they annoyed me when I slept.  However, I thought I’d give the Protect-A-Bed pillow protectors a try since my allergies are much worse when I’m not using a pillow protector.  I put them on my pillows a few weeks ago & just today I had to go check out my pillows to see if I’d remembered to put them on – I had completely forgotten about it since I have noticed no difference in how the pillows feel on my head.  The Protect-A-Bed pillow protectors are soft, absorbent yet ultra thin & they offer a miracle membrane with a total heat transference formula. This makes a world of difference in the softness of the pillow cover and they didn’t detract from the comfort of my pillows at all.  I am definitely impressed – and even better my allergies are improved when I’m using the Protect-A-Bed mattress cover and pillow protectors.  They provide that impermeable barrier between dust mites & other allergens (pet dander, pollen, etc) that can collect in your mattress & pillows.

  1. I sleep with a memory foam contour pillow and a cuddle with a body pillow, my husband moves around too much! And I follow you on Facebook, love your posts!

  2. I sleep with a minimum of two, but up to 6 pillows! I sleep alone in a queen size bed, so easy to make a little nest!

  3. I sleep with 2 king size pillows. Hubby sleeps with 1 king size pillow. And we both have 1 ‘pretty’ king size pillow that we take off of the bed before sleep…

  4. 3 different types of pillows depending on my mood – skinny one; fat, fluffy feather pillow and/or contour pillow. Love ’em all!

  5. I use one pillow to sleep on – at my chiropractors insistence. I have two other pillows though to use to read or watch TV.

  6. I sleep with 3 pillows: 2 thinner ones under my head and one behind standing up sort of to act as more a a headboard to keep the pillows from going astray. :-)

  7. I sleep with a measly one. :) I love the Protect a Bed covers…we have one for our bed and I would love to get them for the kid’s beds too!

  8. I’m new to twitter so I’m not sure about tweeting yet but I tried to tweet the link to this page. My username is inthezoo

  9. I am a 1 pillow person kinda gal, but I’m 29 weeks pregnant right now, so I’ve been sleeping with one pillow under my head and one body pillow :)

  10. I’m the queen of pillows. I have an incline pillow, a side sleeper pillow, a put between my knees pillow, and a snuggle pillow. Any more than this and my husband might divorce me but I wouldn’t mind a body pillow between me and the wall since I sleep on the wall side of the bed. ;) So 4 officially but my dream would include more (a foot pillow would be good too!) Yet when I nap I use NO pillows. I just plop down and love on my bed. Strange.

  11. I too sleep with 3 sometimes 4 pillows at night. I loooove pillows however my husband has severe asthma with dust mite allergies so I would love to try these out.

  12. Omigosh we are crazy about pillows over here! We have at least 4 on the bed. I want more, but it’s not happening. So I make up for it with down comforters lol.

  13. I only sleep with one. It’s my hubby who uses 3-4 and he steals the covers to boot! I’m lucky to get any covering and small edge of the bed to rest my weary bones at the end of the day! ;)

  14. I used to sleep with 2, sometimes 3 pillows. I couldn’t figure out why I was always getting a really bad neck pains & headaches. Duh! So now I am now a one pillow sleeper.

  15. And I’m already a FB fan. You have the best leads on freebies and fun things to do in the area. I’m still really hoping for a call back on the Great Wolf Lodge day passes, that would be soooo fun! Thanks for all you do, Jen… you rock!

  16. I keep meaning to drop you a note and let you know how much I appreciate winning the mattress protector! It is SOO much nicer than what we had on our son’s bed before … his was the one needing one so desperately, and so we took a twin size. With this one, he hasn’t complained once of anything bunching up underneath his sheets – a first!
Thank you to Protect-a-Bed and Thrifty Mom! and a warm Merry Christmas!!
