Free Admission at Point Defiance Zoo

for Federal Employees during Shutdown

free admission at point defiance zoo

*Update: We learned today 10/13/13 that this deal is no longer being offered at the zoo or Northwest Trek!

********************

I love that the zoo is doing this – if you’re a federal employee, you can get FREE zoo admission at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium for the entire duration of the federal government shutdown. These are part of their “Free Federal Fun Days” promo they are offering right now to honor federal employees during this difficult time. This also includes active-duty military folks who can also receive FREE zoo admission.  Immediate family members of federal employees and military also can receive half off general admission prices. (Regular admission for adults is $12.50 & 10.50 for youth (ages 5-12)and tots (ages 3-4) are $6.25.

In order to receive the free or half price admission, you must bring your military or federal employee identification to the zoo and show when you are purchasing your tickets.

  1. You may want to edit this post, we went today and it was full price. We were informed that the military/ federal employees get in free was only for one weekend.

    1. Hi Madelyn – thanks for letting us know and how frustrating. They had reported it in various media outlets (the Tacoma Tribune, Q13 news etc) as being available for the entire duration of the shutdown (https://www.thenewstribune.com/2013/10/03/2819518/federal-employees-get-free-admission.html).

Plus on their Facebook page they have confirmed themselves that the offer should be for entire duration of the shutdown – https://www.facebook.com/PtDefianceZoo .

We will try to reach them and see if we can get some clarification on what is going on, since they have publicly stated it on their own Facebook page. Thanks for the update!

    2. Hi Madelyn, Just wanted to update you and let you know that Jen did confirm with the zoo that they recently decided to end this promotion early. We will get the post updated ASAP, and thank you so much for letting us know!!

  2. Thanks for the update. We, too, found out yesterday after packing up our 3 boys and driving all the way from Lacey. Spent over $45 on admission even though we didn’t really have it. (Can’t really pack kids back into the car when you’re already standing at admissions!) Disappointing to say the least, considering I called last week to confirm and I checked their FB page & News Tribune before we left just to see if anything had changed… sigh.

    1. Oh no – I can definitely empathize with your frustration Vanessa! We did talk to them yesterday and let them know how important it is to keep folks updated when these promos change, so hopefully this won’t happen again in the future. So sorry you had to spend money you were not planning on :(
