Edible Cookie Dough Recipe

Delicious & Easy Edible Cookie Dough Recipe

This easy edible cookie dough recipe is so simple to make, and delicious to eat. It is also a very flexible recipe as you can make the base, and then add some different mix ins to change it up. The base recipe we use is a chocolate chip edible cookie dough recipe, but we share more ideas on what you can add below too. You can even bake some of the dough if you wanted to enjoy both.

What makes this cookie dough edible?

It is made without eggs & raw flour. You heat treat your flour before combining ingredients (we share more about that below). You will want to do this for any no bake desserts you make, and it takes just a few minutes to do.

Ingredients for Edible Cookie Dough Recipe

Ingredients Needed to Make Edible Cookie Dough

Since you will be eating this recipe raw, and not baking it, I like to use the highest quality of each of these ingredients I can get my hands on, as you will taste them all.

1⁄2 c salted butter
1 c flour (heat treated, we tell you how to do that below)
3⁄4 c dark brown sugar (you can also use light)
1 tsp vanilla extract (I prefer real vanilla for this recipe, but you can use any you have)
2 tbsp milk
3⁄4 c semi sweet chocolate chips (if you want it to be a bit sweeter use milk chocolate chips)

How to Make Edible Cookie Dough

In a microwave safe bowl, heat treat the flour in the microwave or oven. You can do that by:

  • Putting it in the microwave for minutes, and stirring it halfway through to make sure it is evenly heated throughout. You want it all to reach 165 degrees. This is the process we used in this recipe.
  • You can also spread it out on a baking try and bake in a 350 degree oven for approximately 7-10 minutes (again getting it to 165 degrees). Let it cool before using it in this recipe.
  • You can also buy heat treated flour, that is if you can find it. It can be tough to find, so we just do it ourselves.

What is heat treating flour?

Heat treating flour is the process of getting your raw flour up to 165 degrees Fahrenheit to make it safe to consume in this recipe.

Next, add in the remaining ingredients and combine well.

Once the rest of your ingredients are blended, you can fold in the Cholocate Chips

Easy Edible Cookie Dough Recipe

Serve with a handful of chocolate chips and enjoy! It is best to eat your edible cookie dough within 2 to 3 days of making (keep in the refrigerator). You can also freeze it in a freezer safe zip loc or container for up to 2 months, and defrost before enjoying.

More ideas of cookie mix ins you can add in during this step include:

  • Other flavors of chips, like white chocolate, butterscotch or peanut butter.
  • Mini M&Ms or other small candies
  • Oatmeal & Raisins (or my favorite combo is oatmeal and butterscotch chips with a little bit of cinnamon)
  • Chopped nuts (I like to add in peanut butter chips and some chopped peanuts)

You can also bake it if you want. Without the eggs it will be a different texture (more spread out) than traditional cookies, but it is another option for this recipe too. Simply bake on a lined or sprayed cookie sheet at 350 degrees until lightly browned (about 10 minutes).

Enjoy with a tall glass of milk, or one of our favorite coffee recipes.
