9 Castles to Stay At in the Pacific Northwest (Well, Castle Themes That Is)!
If you have always dreamed of jetting off to Ireland, or someplace in Europe famous for its gorgeous castles, to stay over in, then you will definitely want to check out these options that are closer to home. No long airfare is needed to spend an evening in a castle – you just have to know where to find them! Some will give you a castle experience with a Northwest vibe, but others will make you feel like you have been transported over to Europe for a week or weekend, or however long you choose to stay.
I have included options here, starting with those in the Washington area; however, for the real castle appeal, my recommendation is to head up to Canada, where you will find some pretty grand options – but these ones will cost you a pretty penny, so consider a visit in the off season to save some money. These would be perfect for couples getaways, or if you have a little prince or princess who has dreamed of staying in a castle, imagine the memories you will make for them with these spots.
While these are not neccessarily real castles, they all have castle theming and are great options for those of you looking for that kind of experience for your next getaway!
Washington Castles
Here are our favorite picks for where to stay in Washington if you are looking to get that castle feel.
The Lodge at St. Edwards State Park – Kenmore, WA
While this is technically a lodge that has been restored, in the Northsound area, it is definitely giving off castle vibes. This spot is unique in that it sits on public parks land, and is also in an urban area with easy access to Seattle. There is the Cedar + Elm restaurant and two bars onsite, as well as a spa, and easy access to the park’s property hikes and Lake Washington. They also offer an afternoon tea on Thursday and Fridays, which gives off more of those castle vibes.

Manresa Castle – Port Townsend, WA
This spot is actually marketed as a castle stay in a historic Hotel in Port Townsend. Sounds like this one is older, as the Castle was completed in 1892, so make sure that an older hotel works for your style before booking this spot. It is in the downtown Port Townsend area, so you will have easy access to the town. It does have an old Otis elevator, installed in 1928. which some people loved and others not as much, as it is not convenient, so keep that in mind. If you love history, this one is on the National Register of Historic Places, too!
Travel Tip: Request one of their “Haunted Rooms” to stay in if that sounds like fun!

Thornewood Castle – Lakewood, WA
Thornewood Castle in Lakewood operates as an events center, but also as a bed and breakfast, so you can book a room here. This spot sits lakefront, on 3 acres with a traditional English garden included as well. There is a piano in the great hall, and a game room with pool, ping pong, and more, a library, and more traditional common rooms to enjoy as well. This spot was first built in 1910 and includes a staircase and doors that are 500 years old, plus 16th-century windows!

Western Canada (Vancouver, Victoria & Banff):
Canada has a number of spots that look like castles. Most notable are the many Fairmont hotels. Although the most grand of those is in Quebec, there are also quite a few beautiful options much closer to the Puget Sound area if you want to plan a trip. These ones are very expensive, though, but they definitely belong on a list of castles in the region.
These hotels are all open for daily visitors too, so another idea is to stay somewhere more affordable in the area, and then visit them for a day trip (book tea time or just walk the public areas of these hotels).
The Empress in Victoria, BC
This is one of my favorite spots, for quite af few reasons. It sits just steps from the waterfront as well as the British Columbia Parliament Buildings, and there is plenty to do in the surrounding Victoria area. They are famous for their High Tea! Everything about this hotel exudes luxury. This spot also includes a history of actual royals visiting and staying here. Plus, it is packed with ammenities like an indoor heated swimming pool, indoor whirlpool, children’s wading pool, two saunas, and more.
If you do plan a visit here, check out what to do in Victoria for families.

The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel (aka “Castle in the Rockies”)
This place is gorgeous and sits in the middle of Banff National Forest, but it costs a pretty penny to stay here. This area is still worth visiting, in my opinion, if you cannot afford the hefty price tag of this spot, and just make a day trip to visit. Especially since there are transportation options you can use.
If you do want to visit, early spring (like in April) is one of the times we found the best rates – but by best rates, you are still looking at $400 a night.
So, a much more affordable idea is to visit this spot as a day trip. You can stay at some place in the area that is much more affordable (I have had my eye on the Fox Hotel and Suites now for a bit due to their spa/pool area). Then head up to enjoy the hotel for the day, including multiple restaurant options (as well as a deli in the lobby), history throughout, and beautiful views on the grounds.

The Fairmont also owns the Chateau Lake Louise
This spot is also going to be pricey, but it sits right next to the magnificent Lake Louise and is just gorgeous. It is around a 10-hour drive from the Seattle area, but you are going to be hard pressed to find a hotel of this caliber, sitting on a lake of this color! Depending on the time of the year you stay here, you may either experience gorgeous views of the lake, or in the winter, it will freeze over and you may enjoy hikes out over the lake or ice skating on it!
Just like above, these rates are going to be really pricey, so another idea is to visit a local (and more affordable) hotel, and then visit the Fairmont Lake Louise as a day trip. One spot that gets very high reviews, and will be at least half the cost of the Fairmont (if not less), and is only 10 minutes away from the Fairmont, is the Lake Louise Inn. You could stay here for much less, then head over to the Fairmont to enjoy the castle environment for the day!

Oregon Castles You Can Stay In
Oregon has some unique spots, in that you will have access to the Oregon Coast, Wine Country and more! Here are some of our favorite picks in this area.
Arch Cape Inn, Cannon Beach, OR
(Note – this one is an adults-only option – so best suited for adult getaways)
This spot not only has a beautiful castle exterior, but it is also located in Cannon Beach, which is a gorgeous area of the Oregon Coast, known for its views of Haystack Rock. This spot offers the perfect mix of being tucked away in the forest, but also offering easy access to the beach. It sits just off of highway 101, and seven out of ten of the rooms have at least a partial ocean view. If you are looking for a romantic spot to celebrate a special occasion, and love a castle + beach vibe (rare!) then check this spot out!

Chateau Herbe ~ Ashland, OR
This spot is a VRBO property where you can rent rooms. It is located just a short drive from downtown Ashland, and sounds like this one is best suited for a couple’s getaway.
They do host a large Shakespear Festival annually, that could be a fun time to book it for (if they have rooms available).

Idaho Castles You Can Stay In
We have just included castle-like stays in Northern Idaho here, so they are within the Northwest region. You can enjoy them in and of themselves, or as part of a stay to visit Silverwood, the universities, or anything else in the area. If you are planning to head to Northern Idaho, we have lots of things families may enjoy in this area.
Although we only have one bed and breakfast listed for Idaho, it does have a couple of home rentals below that are beautiful, and more affordably priced than some of the other home rentals.
Meadowinds Bed and Breakfast in Moscow, Idaho
If you plan on visiting the university (or Washington State University) or will be in Moscow for any other reason – and love castles, you will want to check this one out. This is a bed and breakfast style rental, and there are 3 rooms for rent, starting at as low as $100 (so it can be budget friendly too).

Bonus Ideas: Castle-Themed Home Rentals
Here are a few castle-themed rentals that you will find throughout Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, too. The fun thing about most of these is you will rent the full home, vs just a room, so grab another family and share the cost!
Medieval Castle with Life Size Dragons in Monroe, WA – This one is one you will likely want to share the cost with other families, otherwise it will be pricey – but it is a huge property sitting on 18 forresty acres and boasts life size dragons, secret passages, a great hall and reviews even mention dress up clothing to take pictures in!
Lavendary Castle in Sequim, WA – This spot sleeps 10 and may be more affordable than some on the list if you split it with another family or two. It is a 40-minute drive to the Olympic National Park from this spot (check out some of our favorite beaches in the Olympic National Park area if you plan to visit), and in walking distance to many of Sequim’s local spots (like park, groceries, and coffee), plus they have a hot tub onsite too.
Graystone Castle – Arlington WA – This spot in northern Washington is a newer build (2018) but it boasts a 20,000+ sq ft castle that features 7 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, movie theater, spa inspired master bath, ballroom, chefs’ kitchen, pool table room, poker room, 4+ dining spaces, 4+ living/lounging rooms, many terraces and outdoor spaces, arcade games, outdoor fire pit, and more! This spot is very expensive, so you will only want to book it with lots of people (it sleeps 25) and be able to share that cost!
Castle Estate minutes from Downtown – SW Portland, OR. This spot does have a minimum night stay for many dates, but if you are looking to check out the Portland area for a minute, and love castles, this could work out for you!
Castle in Sand Point, Idaho – This one could be fun to rent for a trip to Silverwood, or up to Schwietzer mountain in the winter (or summer). This place looks beautiful, sleeps 14, and you will likely want to share it with family or friends too. If you want the castle feel and upgraded spaces to stay in, then definitely check this one out.
Castle near Schweitzer Mountain, Idaho – Unlike most of the aother home rentals, this one is a 2 bedroom and 2 bath unit, and it makes sense for single families. Note that it does sleep 8, so two families could potentially share it to bring the cost down even more.
