I’m going to start highlighting the various family-friendly events & activities going on during the holiday season each week. I think it’s so important to take time as a family to make those special memories & not get so caught up in the busy-ness of the holiday season.  Too often, it’s the day after Christmas & I have regrets about how we’ve spent that holiday season.  For our family, we want to make sure that we’re creating meaningful experiences with our kids & teaching them about the true meaning of the season.  So, I’m really trying to be intentional about seeking out ideas now so that we can plan things out & not miss out on creating those special memories!

Creating these special holiday memories doesn’t have to break the bank either – you’d be amazed at the number of free or frugal holiday events there are around your area!    And the holiday fun is actually starting this weekend! Here are just a few ideas to get you started – feel free to leave a comment on the blog or Facebook page if you know of any other fun, frugal holiday events this weekend!

{I’ve also included a few other ideas that are not holiday-related but would be fun family activities}

Puget Sound Area:

Festival of Trees Sunday November 21st – 3 – 5:30 pm (this is the opening night) & it will continue thru December 1st.  FREE admission, Fairmont Hotel in downtown Seattle; Each tree is dedicated to a courageous Seattle Children’s Hospital patient.

Fantasy Lights Preview – Spanaway; Sunday November 21st – 5-7pm; Preview the Fantasy Lights display by doing it as a walking tour (instead of the driving tour it will be for the holiday season). Tickets are $4/ea or $12 for a family  – or get advance tickets for $9/family.  Read more about it at Sounds Fun Mom.

Swanson’s Reindeer Festival – Swanson’s Nursery in Seattle; Visit Swanson’s 2 reindeer plus a camel & miniature donkey. Yulefest – Nordic Heritage Museum; on Saturday & Sunday 11/20-21, 10am -5pm; held at the Nordic Heritage Museum; Suggested donation of $1-3, kids under 5 are free; this is a Nordic Christmas Celebration with Scandivanian singers, hand-crafted gifts, nordic cuisine, arts & crafts for the kids & even a visit from Santa. {I think this would be so fun to go to as I have a Swedish heritage-my grandma was Swedish- & I would love to take my kids to learn more about it. Definitely going to put  this on my calendar for next year!}
