4 Tips to Keep Your Phone Safe in the Summer & How to Protect it Against Loss and Damage

4 Tips to Keep Your Phone Safe This Summer & Verizon Total Mobile Protection Plan + Giveaway for Lifeproof Phone Case!

Now that summer is finally here in the PNW, there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy with the kids, but all of this fun in the sun can be hazardous for our phones. According to phone warranty provider, Asurion, more phones experience water-related damage in July than any other month of the year, followed by June and August.  I can see why – I am notorious for dropping my phone – anywhere & everywhere, especially in the busy summer when we are constantly on the go! Drives my husband batty as it’s pretty much a given that it will be dropped several times a week so I can’t live without a heavy-duty case on my phone – no cute little cover for me, it needs to be able to withstand frequent drops.

Even the most cautious among us can still damage our phones, especially when you throw kids into the mix. One moment your child is playing Angry Birds on your brand new iPhone or Samsung Galaxy, and the next it’s on the hardwood floor with a cracked screen.  I have so many mom friends who live with a cracked screen for months as they don’t want to have to pay for a new phone – yet it’s so hard to use their phone & navigate with it using a cracked screen.

Tips on how to minimize damage to your phone during the summertime:

Waterproof cases –  When the weather is beautiful & heats up, all we want to do is head for the water & cooling off and it can be easy to forget about your phone or you bring your phone along on the water in a boat for pictures, but it might unexpectedly end up in the water or getting splashed.  Think about getting a waterproof case to keep your devices safe, and maybe tag on a waterproof speaker  to enjoy the afternoon out on a boat with your family.

Watch out for heat –  Summertime heat can be a big problem (even out here in the milder NW – we are not used to the heat that comes in July and August. If your phone feels too hot, turn it off right away. Blowing on it or setting it over a fan or air vent can also help save it from heat damage. Make sure it cools down to normal temps before turning it back on.

Don’t sweat it. Did you know sweat can cause water damage? If you plan on exercising outdoors and taking advantage of the beautiful summer weather, pick up some sweat-proof headphones that won’t compromise sound quality.

Remember to use a case. Seems obvious, but a case really does help prevent cracked screens and other damage. You can choose anything from designer cases from brands like Kate Spade and Michael Kors, to more heavy-duty cases like LifeProof for enhanced dust and water protection if you’re heading out camping or on a hike exploring in the mountains for the day.

Cracked Phone Need Verizon Mobile Protection Plan

The service costs $9/month for tablets and basic phones and $11/month for smartphones. Bundling a family of four on the plan is even cheaper, with the 4th phone at just $9/month. $11 per month is far less expensive (and less stressful) than the cost of a brand new iPhone or Galaxy S8, which cost upwards of $650.

  2. I’m enrolled in the Verizon TMP. Just had to use my benefits and had a replacement refurbished phone the next day. That new phone needs a sturdy LifeProof case.

  3. I need this phone because I have a 2 and a 4 year old, carpal tunnel syndrome causes me to drop things a lot, we spend a lot of time around water, and I’ve already replaced the glass on my phone twice! (At this point it would have been cheaper to buy the Life Case at full price)

  4. My current case is all kinds of chipped and broken! Time to replace! I would love to try this case out :)

  6. I have a life Proof case on my iPad and it works wonders! But when I bought my iPhone the case wasn’t available yet. I opted for a different case and am regretting it. I would love to win!
