Wow, this is a *hot* deal on Groupon today – buy a discounted membership to the popular Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) in Portland, OR, for as low as $45 for membership for 2 or $65 for a family membership + 4 Omnimax Theater or Submarine tour admissions. This is 50% off the regular rate!

Here are the options available::

$45 for 1 year membership for 2 to OMSI + 2 tickets to Omnimax theater or submarine tour admission, free parking, discount on special exhibits & discount on food & science store merchandise (regularly $85)

$65 for 1 year family membership + 4 tickets to Omnimax Theater or Submarine Tour admissions (Regularly $130) – this is for 2 named adults & up to 4 children. Plus you’ll get free parking, discount on special exhibits & discount on food & science store merchandise

We just headed to OMSI for the first time with our girls over Spring Break and they LOVED it (make sure to read my review of our Portland trip, with information about visiting OMSI)! Even after spending 4+ hours there, we could have spent many more hours there, so this is definitely a place you’d want to come back several times to, so a membership could definitely save you money in the end!

The other awesome part of a membership is that not only will you get membership to OMSI, but you can take advantage of the reciprocal membership benefits! There are numerous science and children’s museums around the country where you can get FREE admission. The only caveat is typically that you cannot use the reciprocal membership benefits at a location within 90 miles of where you have your membership OR 90 miles within your residence (sorry about this part, folks – FB Fan Angela just alerted me to this additional wording about your residence).  So, for example, we have a Museum of Flight membership & were able to use it at OMSI to get free admission, but would not be able to use it at Pacific Science Center.

For those of you in the Northwest, here are some of the locations for free/discounted admission with an OMSI admission:

  • Pacific Science Center (Seattle)
  • The Museum of Flight (Seattle)
  • Imagine Children’s Museum (Everett, WA) – will check ID’s for residence info
  • Kidsquest Children’s Museum (Factoria, WA) – will check ID’s for residence info
  • Science Works Hands on Museum (Ashland, OR)
  • Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory (Sunriver, OR)
**This will only work if your home is also 90 miles away from the museum you want to visit & 90 miles away from OMSI! Sorry for the confusion, folks!
You’d have to check with the locations that are closer to OMSI or to your own residence to see if they will allow the reciprocal membership benefits, as it does say it’s up to the individual museum to decide.
