National Public Gardens Day is May 6th, 2011  and to celebrate Better Homes & Gardens & the American Public Gardens Association are offering FREE admission for your whole family to select public gardens around the country.  You can find out all the details & find a participating garden location near you.  Make sure to print off the coupon to bring with you.

I’m excited about  this as it’s the day before my birthday & I absolutely LOVE flowers & beautiful gardens – one of my favorite things to do is to go visit gardens & just enjoy all the different varieties of flowers in bloom  (especially if the Northwest weather is cooperating). It’s also the Friday before Mother’s Day so a great way to take your mom or mother-in-law out for a special day.

Here are the Northwest locations:

Washington:

  • Powell’s  Wood – located in Federal Way, WA (near Dash Point State Park); open from 10am -5pm on Friday- they will have special events on this day with photography presentations & more. If you’d rather go on the weekend, they will have presentations by NW garden expert Ed Hume as well as other special events (this will not be free on the weekend, though, only on Friday

Oregon:

  • Hoyt Arboretum – Portland, OR; (isn’t this usually free – not sure why this was included on the list, but it is a beautiful location to visit)
  • Leach Botanical Garden– Portland, OR
  • Oregon Garden – Silverton, OR; we used to enjoy going to these gardens around Mother’s Day (which is also my birthday weekend) when we lived in Albany, OR

Idaho:
