Seeds of Change is back again this year with a great offer for schools. Seeds of Change offers 100% certified organic seeds for sale if you’re looking for a good place to buy seeds. Right now, though, they are offering to send 25 million organic seeds to schools across the country to “support and encourage ‘sowing and growing’ organic school gardens. So, each school can sign up to receive 100 FREE packets of organic seeds to be sent to them (+ s/h). I love this idea as it’s a way to teach kids how to eat healthier foods as it’s more exciting for them to want to eat them if they help grow the food & it encourages them to be more self-sufficient in learning ways to grow their own food.
Anyone who works for a K-8 school with an federal employee ID number (it does say that it needs to be a designated school representative so an administrator or other office staff) can sign up for 100 packets of 100% certified organic seeds to be sent to their school. They will need to pay shipping costs of $14.95, but that’s still a fantastic deal! The seeds consist of a variety of vegetable, flower, and herb seeds. My husband signed up for this deal last year when they offered it & his Plant Science students have been using them all year to learn about a variety of different plants.
Upcoming Plant Sale:
Since we’re talking about gardening, I also wanted to mention an upcoming plant sale at Lincoln High School in Tacoma. The annual plant sale to support Lincoln High School students will be taking place next week from May 3rd – 5th. This is an excellent opportunity for you to support the Environmental Education Club & the FFA at Lincoln High School. All proceeds go directly back into the student programs.Even better, their prices should match or beat the prices at local stores – so you’re saving money & supporting school programs! And if you head into the lower greenhouse, you can say hi to my husband and I might even be there helping too! :)
Some of the plants that you’ll find at the plant sale are annuals (pansies, marigolds, petunias, lobelia, etc), perennials, hanging plants, vegetable starts (zucchini, cucumber, peas, etc), strawberry plants, native plants & much more. You can see pictures & full lists of plants on the Lincoln Plant Sale website or check out their Facebook page for new, updated pictures of what’s in stock at the sale!
Lincoln Plant Sale Dates:
- Thursday May 3rd – 2:30pm – 5:30pm
- Friday May 4th – 2:30pm – 5:30pm
- Saturday May 5th – 8:30am – 3:30pm
The Lincoln High School greenhouses are located at 3600 S. G St (between South 35th and South 36th St) in Tacoma. If you’re heading to the Tacoma mall, it’s just 5 minutes away (on the other side of the freeway). So, make sure to stop in & check out the large selection of plants!
