Olympia Hands on Children’s Museum – Free Admission and Membership Options for Low Income Families

Last week, we shared about the significantly reduced membership fees to the Pacific Science Center for low income families (just $19 for a family membership for the year!). Thanks to reader Daniel for alerting us to the fact that the Olympia Hands on Children’s Museum also offers several different options for low income families to be able to visit the museum for FREE.  Back in February, 2017, the museum partnered with the Washington State Employees Credit Union to provide these resources for families for the next 5 years.  This initiative is called the “Inspired Learning for All” initiative and it will help the Hands on Children Museum provide more opportunities for low-income families & for educational programs in rural and Title I schools.

Free Admission for Low Income Families:

The Hands on Children’s Museum is an amazing museum for kids in Olympia, WA & if you are a family who is receiving state food assistance, you can get FREE admission for the day to the museum when you present your EBT card with your picture ID. This will provide free admission for up to 5 people (ages 2 & older, babies up to 2 are already free). If you have more than 5 people in your family, then you will just pay a very small fee for the additional members of your immediate family.

Possible Free or Reduced Family Membership for Low Income Families:

On your first visit to the museum when you can get free admission for your family by showing your EBT card & your picture ID, make sure to ask about the membership options for low-income families. If you want to be able to come frequently to the museum, you can apply for a free or reduced family membership to the museum. You will need to fill out a form to apply to show that you are in need of free or reduced membership. The membership would be a family membership, providing 2 adults & the kids in the family, with a membership to the museum for 6 months. These can be renewed.  You can call the museum at (360) 956-0818 if you have any questions about this program or ask in person & get an application when you head to the museum the first time.

This reduced/free membership program could apply to these families:

  • Eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch Program
  • Receiving any other form of public assistance
  • Having difficult financial circumstances

The Hands on Children’s Museum also offers FREE monthly parent support programs that you can take advantage of such as the PowerParenting and PlayWise programs.  Make sure to check out those resources as well!
