Simple 3 Ingredient French Dip recipe

Are you looking for some recipe ideas for leftover Roast or Prime Rib? How about making French Dips? This is our favorite way to make these sandwiches. It’s so simple and they are so flavorful.

Here is a great recipe for making a flavorful French Dip – either throw an uncooked roast in the slow cooker or this is also a great recipe for left-over roast beef or prime rib, as well. If you are using a left-over roast beef or prime rib, it’s as simple as warming up some Au Jus in a pan and using that to warm the leftover beef in. It’s a perfect way to enjoy that Prime Rib after Christmas too!

Generally, I use a number of ingredients to season my roasts to get the perfect French Dip and make my own Au Jus. But if you pre-seasoned your Roast for a prior meal, you can just warm it up with last night’s seasonings and some water to make the beef juice. It is perfect for an easy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients:

  • Roast (I used 1/3 of the roast for my family, but you may need a half a roast if your family has bigger eaters), or your favorite roast. You can also use Prime Rib if you have any of that left over from a holiday meal.
  • Hoagies Rolls
  • Cheddar Cheese
  • Optional – Au Jus Seasoning

Instructions to make the French Dip:

1) Thaw your roast out the night before (you can cook it slowly all day long too, and it will thaw out, but the simplest method is to have it close to thawing). Be sure you thaw it in a bowl, so you don’t lose any of the juices.

**Note – this is also a great recipe to use leftover Roast, or Prime Rib for too. Simply simmer the leftover meat in Au Jus sauce to warm through.

2) Simmer the roast on medium low in a large sauce pan. As it thaws out, it should have its own juices.

3) When the roast is warmed through, use two forks to break it apart, and let it simmer in the juices for around an hour on low.

4) Toast your Hoagie rolls under the broiler with Cheddar Cheese on one side.

5) Fill with the warmed and shredded beef and add the juices into a small bowl for dipping.

* Optional – if you want a stronger Au Jus taste, you can add around a teaspoon of Johnny’s Au Jus seasoning to the juices while the meat is simmering in it. The roast is flavorful enough that we thought it tasted great on its own, though!

It’s that simple. My husband said the French Dips were “Excellent!”. I loved how simple they were to make.
