Disney Store – Free Shipping & 50% off select items
September 2, 2010
Welcome to Thrifty NW Mom! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe by your feed reader or by email . Make sure to become a Facebook Fan & follow me on Twitter. Thanks for visiting!
The Disney Store is having some great sales online right now with 50% off select items -in addition, they are offering FREE shipping thru Monday, Labor Day. This makes for some great deals you can find! For FREE shipping, all you need to do is use the coupon code: FREESHIP at checkout.
Some of the best deals you’ll find are the character backpacks & lunch boxes. Of course, school has now started for most kids (or in the next week) so most likely you’ve already bought their bags. However, kids can be quite hard on items, so it might be good to buy an extra set to replace mid year at these prices!
Just head on over to the Disney Store & click on the 50% off sale graphics on the front page – or click on “Shop by Category” & then click on “Sale” to see all the items listed. There are quite a few Toy Story items, which is quite popular right now with the kids after Toy Story 3 in the theaters (which will also be coming out in November via DVD/Blu-Ray)
Here are a few of the items I found:
Personalized Woody Backpack – $7.99 (Regularly $19.50)
Personalized Buzz Lightyear Backpack – $7.99 (Reg $19.50)
Birthday Mickey Eco Shopping Bag – $1.49 (Reg $2.50)
*My SIL brought little gifts for my girls when they were out a few weeks ago visiting from FL & she packaged them in these cute shopping bags! I thought this was such a great idea for wrapping a present – super fun for the kids & then a great bag to keep!
Minnie Mouse Lunch Tote – $3.99 (Reg $12.50)
Thanks for the great tip, FB Fan Rachel!

Home Depot Coupons – Buy One Get One Free Bulbs & 10% off purchase
August 27, 2010

Are you a member of the Home Depot Garden Club? If so, they just sent out emails this week for Buy 1 Get 1 FREE spring bulbs. So, make sure to check your emails for this great coupon. Fall is the time to plant all those bulbs for the beautiful spring flowers such as tulips, daffodils, hyacinths & more. Spring is my favorite season because of all these gorgeous flowers that pop up!
The Home Depot Garden Club is a great newsletter to sign up for as they regularly send out high-value coupons via email (as well as mail). Signing up for email newsletters is one of my favorite ways to find high-value coupons for the brands & stores that I love. If you’re not signed up for this email newsletter yet, sign up HERE.
If you’ll be moving anytime soon, make sure you also sign up for a coupon for 10% off your entire purchase at Home Depot. If you’ve been saving up for a big purchase, this will definitely be a great coupon to take advantage of.

Thrifty Date Night – $4 Fandango Movie Ticket & Free popcorn at Regal Cinemas
August 25, 2010

Wow, I am loving all the great group-buying discounts lately. Groupon has some great offers available today – the key is to look at other cities, not just your own area, as they often offer discounts that anyone can take advantage of across the country.
Today’s Groupon deal in Orange County, CA is featuring a Fandango movie ticket for just $4 (up to a $12 value- this is up to 67% off). You will only be able to buy 1 of these per account but if you have your husband sign up for a Groupon account, too, then he could buy one as well, so that you both could go to the movies for just $8 total!
This is a special Groupon deal in that it doesn’t expire for 4 more days (unless it sells out- which is a good possibility). Make sure your local theater accepts Fandango tickets, too, by visiting Fandango.com first to see if your theater is listed.
Here’s how you’ll find this deal:
- First log in or sign up for Groupon
- Come back to this post & click on this link to find the $4 Fandango ticket.
*This is not valid to use on IMAX or 3D movies
FREE Popcorn at Regal Cinemas – August 27th – 29th
If you plan on using your Fandango tickets this weekend & will be heading to a Regal Theater, make sure to head to the Regal Cinemas Facebook Fan page & “like” the page. Then click on the “Coupons” tab & print off a coupon for a FREE small popcorn (no purchase required). This coupon is only valid from Friday August 27th thru Sunday August 29th.
All in all, you’ll have a great thrifty date night heading to the movies & getting a small popcorn all for just $8!! Sounds like a great plan to me! So, what movie would you see in the theaters this week?
Thanks Steals & Deals & Saving, Surviving & Thriving!

Amazon Diapers & Wipes Sale Continues – 50% off & more
August 21, 2010
Thanks to my friend Cheryl for reminding me that Amazon continues to have the amazing diaper deal with discounts up to 50% off & more when using an Amazon coupon. I mentioned this deal a few weeks ago in July & Amazon has continued to have their sale on diapers & wipes 30% off when using the Subscribe & Save option.
The best part about this deal is that you can use the bright orange, 20% off Amazon diaper coupon found in the August AND September issues of Parents and/or Parenting magazines. You may even be able to stack the diaper coupons if they are from different magazines. Even better, you’ll get FREE 2-day shipping as part of the subscribe & save option.
Here’s how it will work:
-Check out all the diapers on sale for 30% off using the Subscribe & Save option
(you will also find a number of natural diaper products including Seventh Generation, Earth’s Best & gDiapers). You’ll just need to remember to cancel the Subscribe & Save option after your diapers have shipped {go into “Your account” , Click on “Manage Subscribe & Save Subscriptions”}
-Click on the diaper product you want & then on the right side, choose the Subscribe & Save option you want. Click Subscribe Now. You should then see the FREE shipping discount & 30% off discount at checkout.
-At checkout, you can then try to enter the codes from 20% off Amazon diaper coupon from the Parents or Parenting magazines (August or September issues) -you could possibly enter 2 codes – one from Parents & one from Parenting magazine to see discounts of up to 50 or even 70% off. It may only work for you to enter 1 code, though – since I’m on vacation I haven’t tried it myself to see if it works or to see what the coupons says. Even at 50% off, this is still a great deal on diapers, especially the natural diapers which can be quite pricey with fewer sales.
If you don’t receive these magazines, this may be worth buying the magazine at the store {just make sure you flip thru the magazine & find the orange 20% off Amazon diaper coupon insert in the magazine first -I’ve heard stories of people going & ripping out the coupon without buying the magazine.
}. You could also check with family & friends or even ask at your local Doctor’s office if they have these magazines.
I’m not sure if this diaper deal will continue into September or if it will end in August – so just be aware that it may not last too much longer! Let us know how this works for you!
P.S. Facebook Fan Christa has offered a 20% off Amazon diaper coupon code (expires 8/31) for anyone to use – make sure to check her post a bit further down on the Thrifty NW Mom Facebook page. Thank you for your generosity, Christa!

Reminder: Free Large Photo book From Picaboo
August 20, 2010

I don’t know about you, but August is going by way too quickly! Many of you in other parts of the country have already had your kids go back to school, but most areas in the Northwest will be heading back after Labor Day! The end of the August also means the deadline for these awesome FREE Hardcover photo books from Picaboo. If you missed my earlier post, this is an amazing deal you’ll definitely want to take advantage of before it’s too late!
Picaboo is offering a FREE large Hardcover photo book to new members! You’ll get a Large photo book with 20 pages for FREE (valued at $39.99). All you’ll need to do is pay for shipping/handling, which should come out to around $8.99. If you want to add more pages, you’ll just be charged for those pages & then s/h may change slightly. You have until August 31, 2010 to order your FREE book.

Here’s how it works:
–Go to Picaboo.com & sign up for an account. You’ll then need to download the software.
–Make your photo book. You can choose from: Large Classic, Classic Leather, or Classic Custom Photo Book. Picaboo offers many different options for backgrounds, journaling, photo placement, etc (as I mentioned earlier, it’s my favorite site for making photo books – I made about 3 several years ago for grandparents for my daughter’s first year of life!)
–When you’re done making your book, head to checkout & use the coupon code: FREEBK (only valid thru 8/31). This will drop the price of the book to FREE & you’ll just pay the shipping/handling charges. If your book contains more than 20 pages, you’ll just be charged for those additional pages.
–Once you’ve completed your book, you then have the option to share your book by email with friends & family. I really like that option – you may not be able to afford to buy a photo book for everyone, but you can share it with them via email.
Here are some fun uses for your FREE photo book:
- Document your child’s 1st year (or any year) in pictures & adding journaling to remember all those special moments or stories behind the pictures
- Family Vacation – this is what I plan to do when I get back – put together our pictures from our trip to Lake Tahoe to have a fun memento of our trip for our 10th anniversary.
- Make a recipe book – this would be a fun Christmas gift – compile your favorite recipes with pictures to give as a gift. I personally would LOVE this as a gift since I am always looking for favorite family recipes & pictures would make it even better. I’m thinking I might do this sometime with the recipes from my Grandma as I have her box of favorite recipes
- Grandparents Book – this is what we did several years ago thru Picaboo – made a fun book with pictures of my daughter throughout the year & with her grandparents to give for Mother’s Day. Would also make a great personalized Christmas gift.
- ABC or Numbers Book - Great personalized book for kids – find things around your house to take pictures of for each letter of the alphabet. You could also do this with numbers, too. Ex: Picture of 1 dog, 2 apples, 3 chairs, etc.
So, what have you done for your FREE photo book or what creative suggestions do you have for all of us?

Shutterfly – 15 FREE Cards – Variety of Sizes *Update on Code*
August 18, 2010

*Update: Based on a number of responses from readers, it appears that the code for the 12 free photo cards (PICKONE) must not be available for all accounts – only select accounts. Bummer! Sorry I couldn’t update until now -I’ve been gone all day – it did work for me when I tried it this morning. The 3 free custom greeting card code is available for all accounts, though (SUMMERCARDS)
It’s definitely worth trying to see if it will work for you, though. The best idea is to try to save the code to your account first, before you make your cards, to make sure the code will work. Of course, all these great photo deals are happening while I’m away on vacation, with no card reader to upload my pictures. All my pictures are saved on my home computer – haven’t yet put them in Dropbox where I’d have access to them here. Argh!
There are so many fun uses for these cards – birth announcements, early start to your Christmas cards, birthday invitations, thank you cards, & much more! What are you going to use your cards for?
Here are all the sizes you could choose from (just pick one):
