Today was definitely the big day for the Target toy clearance at the majority of Target stores around the nation. I wasn’t able to check it out myself until after a morning meeting, but I was very pleasantly surprised to see quite a bit of selection still (although it was definitely picked over from the morning – there was just a lot of clearance at the South Hill Mall store in Puyallup).  While I was there, they worked on condensing the clearance from 1 1/2 aisles to just 2 sides.  But, I did score in that they brought back a big cart full of clearance that was rejected at the registers, which is where I found several of the girl items (the majority of items I saw were boy items at my store).

I have to give kudos to my little gal – she was such a trooper! We were probably there an hour & a half scoping things out. I’d remembered to bring her a lunch (although unfortunately not one for me) so she was happy chowing down on her lunch as I shopped the clearance sales. So different from previous trips I’ve made to Target toy clearance sales.

As you can see, I didn’t get a ton of stuff because alot of the items that were left were bigger, boy items that wouldn’t have been as easy for birthday parties, which is what I was looking for this time around. But, definitely still some great finds.

My favorite personal find was this hooded towel for $4.98, though – my girls fight over who gets the hooded towel after bath time, so this will definitely come in handy. (This was in the bedding/bath 70% off endcap).

Clearance Finds around the Store

(I think everyone was so focused on the toy clearance that they didn’t check out some of the other awesome deals!)

Kids bedding – 70% off – sheets as low as $5 & some nice, girls’ blankets

Disney Princess bedding Set - $9.88 (70% off)

70% off bedding/comforters - They had some beautiful items – I was so wishing I was in need of bedding because there were some super – cute items!

Baby Items: They had a ton of baby clearance at my store – this side was all just baby equipment & another side had tons of baby clothes & other accessories. They were only 30% off (with a few baby clothes at 50% off).  However, there’s a good chance that these items may get marked to 50% next Monday (as Mondays are the day they mark down the baby section typically).  The baby equipment items do go very quickly once they’re marked to 50% off (I’ve rarely seen the larger items available past 50% off) so you’ll want to keep checking back to see when they mark it down. They had everything from single or double strollers, infant carseats, swings, highchairs & more.

Women’s Clothing – there were racks, racks & more racks of 30 – 70% off women’s clothing & coats! Sweaters, pants, shirts, you name it! Great prices!

My Target Toy Clearance Finds & other Clearance Finds around the Store is a post from: Thrifty NW Mom

It’s that time of year for the big Target toy clearance sales.  Every year in January & July, they have a big clearance sale at 75% off (this year it’s changed to 70% off) where they mark down a number of toys.  It should most likely be happening this week on Thursday January 12th  or Friday January 13th (although it depends on what day your store typically marks down toy clearance – it could be Wednesday too). Last January, the majority of Target stores marked the clearance toys to 75% off on Thursday January 13th, so I’m thinking it will be the same this year again.

If you head into your Target store now, though, you’ll find that there may already be a 70% off section (check out our photos from the South Hill Mall & Gig Harbor Target stores last week), along with 30% & 50% items. However, you should see almost all of that toy clearance marked to 70% off this week.

I use the Target toy clearance as an opportunity to stock up on birthday gifts for friends & family throughout the year. I just have a big bin that I keep it all in & it has definitely saved me quite a bit of money by not having to rush out & find a gift last minute for a birthday party for a classmate of my daughter.

*Make sure to check out the other departments in Target, too, as there were a ton of clearance sales happening all around the store. This is also the time of year when you can find some amazing baby equipment clearance deals (I found a Graco double stroller 50% off several years ago and paid just $60 during the January sale). You’ll have to look for those tiny red clearance stickers in some cases (last week, most of the baby items I saw were 15% off with a few 30% off).

Tips on Shopping the Target Clearance Sales

Scan, scan, scan

Don’t rely on what the signs or even the red clearance stickers say as they may not be accurate.  I always pick up the items that I’m interested in & head to one of the in-store price scanners to check the price. You just might be pleasantly surprised by what you find.

Put items in your cart if interested

When the toy clearance sale happens, these items will move fast, so if you’re debating about a few things, it’s a good idea to stick them in your cart & then decide whether you want them. On the other hand, if you have some time to stick around, you just might find some deals you didn’t find at first as people bring back the items they choose not to get.

Check out the store in person

I’ve never had luck when I call the store to find out if the clearance sale is going on. The people in Customer Service may not be aware of the markdowns taking place, so I think it’s best to just go to the store yourself or tag-team with a friend (you each take different stores & report back on what you find). I love when my friends send me texts or pictures of the deals they find in the stores. It’s great to have that heads up!

Make a list & stick to it

I admit, I can get a little caught up in these sales when they happen. I definitely believe in buying ahead when you find items at rock-bottom prices like 70% off. However, you don’t want to overbuy & end up with a lot of items you won’t end up using.  So, I recommend making a list ahead of time of possible birthdays/gifts that you could use the items & ages. There are often a lot of people at the toy clearance sales & it’s hard to think clearly when you’re so excited about those great deals you’re finding (at least, that’s the case for me!)

It’s time for the Target 75% off Toy Clearance! This toy clearance event happens twice a year at Target – in July & January. This is an excellent time to get some early Christmas shopping done or buy for birthday parties throughout the year.  Another option is to pick up gifts for donations at the holidays (Angel Trees, etc). Several stores around the area started having their 75% off toy clearance yesterday, but the majority of stores should have their toys at 75% off clearance today (Thursday).

Here are a few quick tips as you head out to check out your local stores:

• Stay up to date on what readers are finding at their local Target stores by following the Thrifty NW Mom Facebook page. We had a number of readers checking in today with their locations & what type of clearance deals they were finding, so it’s a great way to find out where to head to as you’re home & deciding where to go or even checking on the go using a smartphone. And please leave reports of what you’re finding at your stores, too!
• Always scan the item you’re interested in. The signs and even the clearance stickers may not be accurate especially as they start marking down items.
• If you see an item you think you might be interested in, put it in your cart. Once you have it in your cart,  then you can take time to decide if it’s something you are really interested in buying.
• If you’re there right near the start of when items have been marked down and you have time to stick around, you may end up finding items that weren’t there previously as people decide not to buy items & bring them back to the clearance section (see above). I will circle thru several times (after checking out other areas of the store) just to see if there are new items that were brought back. Last year, I even found that they were bringing some clearance items out from the back of the store, too.
• Don’t rely on calling the stores to see if the toy clearance has started – just check it out in person. I’ve found that this is often inaccurate as there may be different teams marking down the items & the Customer Service department may not know all the details. It’s just best to head out  to the store to check for yourself or partner up with a friend to hit several stores & give each other a list of what you’re interested in.
• Make sure to check all the aisles as different stores have varied in where you find the toy clearance items. They may be all grouped together on one or two aisles or several end caps or occasionally they may be scattered within the regular priced toys. Just look closely for those little red clearance stickers.
• Make a list before you go of who you need to buy for and their ages. Try to stick with your list & your budget of how much you want to  spend. It’s hard to not get aught up in the excitement of low prices! This is a great opportunity to really save some money as you think about Christmas & birthday gifts throughout the year. But it’s also a time that you could end up  spending quite a bit more than you budgeted as you get excited about the super low prices you’re finding on toys. Just decide if it’s something that you will really use.

Here are a few other clearance sections to check out while you’re at the store (based on reader reports):

• Baby Equipment Clearance – you’ll find everything from strollers, car seats, high chairs & more. One year I got a Graco Double Stroller for 50% off – paid around $60 for a great stroller. You’ll really have to look at those clearance stickers, though & scan those items to see what the discounts are.
• Shoe Clearance - You’ll find summer shoes for the whole family on clearance. I stocked up last year by buying little flip flops & sandals for my girls as low as $1.24. I bought several different sizes so it would fit them no matter which size they ended up wearing.
• Sporting Goods – A reader reported finding toddler Schwinn bike helmets for as low as $4.24. I’m also hearing about  larger summer sporting good items on sale as well.
• Kids Clothing - I heard reports earlier in the week about some great deals on kids clothing items, especially the baby clothing items.

I just checked & that’s the lowest price that this kitchen has dropped to. Amazon has the Step2 Real Projects Workshop toy for kids for just $37.99, which is a 46% savings (normally $69.99). This is sold thru a 3rd party on Amazon but shipping is free.  This toy gets 4 1/2 stars with great reviews.  I just checked my Amazon price comparison site, CamelCamelCamel & this is a huge price drop from the regular price for this toy (normally only as low as $54).  As we know, Amazon prices can greatly fluctuate so this price may not last for long.  So, if you’re thinking about this for a birthday or even early Christmas shopping, I’d act fast!

Today was definitely the big day for most of the Target stores to hit 75% off on toy clearance.  I was gone most of the day & had a meeting in the morning, so I wasn’t able to hit my nearby store until around noon (South Hill mall Target).  Unfortunately by that time, everything was pretty well picked over (about 75% of the items were gone at least). So, I only found 2 items – so no amazing pictures of my Target clearance!  And from what I heard from all of you in your comments on the blog & Facebook, my area stores were  mostly cleared out by 9-10AM.

It does sound like there are still stores that have not made the switch to 75% off their toy clearance or other stores that switched later in the day, so they may still have some stock left.  I decided to list all the stores that we know have 75% off toy clearance (based on reader reports) so you can determine if there are any other stores near you that have not switched over yet.  I did this for the July Target toy clearance sale, too, & it helped to see it all in one place.  Thrifty & Thriving also has a master list of stores with 75% off toy clearance that she’s gathered from her readers to use as well.

If you’ve been to the store late afternoon/evening , give us an update on what type of selection is left at your store.  Thanks!  Even if your store has limited selection left, you still might want to take a look & see if there’s something that you’re interested in.  You just never know what you might find!

Don’t forget to check your store today to see if the toy clearance changed to 75% off!! Make sure to leave a comment with your location if it’s changed!!

As I’ve mentioned before, this is the time of year for Target’s toy clearance to hit 75% off (happens in January & July every year).  Not only that, there are a number of other Target departments which are having big clearance sales as well.  I’ve been checking the deal forums to see if people have found 75% off toys in any of their areas & it sounds like it’s only at select stores today (although you never know, your store could be one of the early ones!). So, I think Thursday & possibly Friday are going to be the days that we see the majority of stores discount the toy clearance to 75% off. Typically Wednesdays & Thursdays are the days that most Target stores mark their toys down, although there are some stores that wait till Fridays.

Make sure to leave a comment if you’ve found 75% off toys at your Target store  & let us know the specific location! Make sure to stay tuned to the Thrifty NW Mom Facebook Fan page, too, as I will share updates on there frequently over the next few days as will many readers.

Here’s a few tips I have for shopping any of the Target clearance sales:

• Make a trip to the store yourself or tag -team with a friend so you can each check out different stores. Don’t rely on calling the store to find out if their toy clearance is 75% off. Typically you will not get accurate information if you call – best bet is to go to the store in person to find out for yourself!
• Scan the items, don’t rely on the clearance signs or price tags. If they are in the middle of clearancing items, they will most likely not change the signs until they are completely done (& sometimes may not change it to 75% off, period). Also, once they scan one item, then all of those specific toys will become clearanced in the system. However, it may take awhile for them to mark them down with stickers (or they may not even change the stickers if they run out of time)….this is why you want to scan!
• Put any items you’re interested into your cart first – then scan! Once the toy clearance is marked to 75% off, it will go FAST! If you think about it too much, it will be gone! So, I always recommend going thru one time quickly & grab any items you’re interested in, scan them & then go back & take a more thorough look.

As I said, there are also a number of other clearance sales going on around the store at Target.  Here are some of the other departments I’ve found clearance deals (I checked on Monday & will be going back later today to update even more).  I’ve also heard from readers about clearance in these departments.

Other Target Clearance Deals Going On:

• Outdoor Toys – A number of readers have reported some awesome finds in the outdoor/large toy section – just look closely for those little red clearance stickers!
• Baby Clothing & Baby Equipment – make sure to look closely for the little red clearance stickers, especially on the baby equipment as it may not always be marked clearly. And don’t forget to scan! I have found some great baby items at this sale, including a double stroller for just $65. Those big items will go fast, though!
• Shoes – Several readers are reporting that a number of kids shoes  have already gone to 75% off clearance & winter boots up to 50% off, so this is a great time to stock up! Especially since we are still in need of those winter boots for sure (as evidenced by the snow last night!)
• Kids Clothing – This is the time of year we start to see big markdowns on the kids clothing on clearance with 50-75% off clothes. You’ll find clothes as low as $1.
• Sporting Goods/Camping Equipment – I saw a number of markdowns on camping supplies & sporting goods, including some exercise equipment & water bottles, etc.
• Kitchen Items
• Bath & Bedding
• Stationery
