Ways to Celebrate Easter – Resurrection Sunday

I have to say that my absolute favorite season is Spring! I absolutely love the trees coming back in bloom, the beautiful flowers popping up everywhere and all the reminders of new life emerging around us! And that’s why Easter is so important to me and my family -it’s a reminder of the sacrifice made by our Savior and the new life that each and every one of us can have in Christ!
As a family, we do participate in some of the fun Easter traditions (egg hunts, dyeing eggs, etc), but most importantly, we want our girls to understand the real meaning behind Easter & the fact that Jesus is alive & He is risen! Here are a few recipes you can make tonight and tomorrow morning to celebrate His resurrection with your children!
RESURRECTION ROLLS:
Ingredients:
- 1 can of refrigerated Crescent Rolls or Biscuits {I’m sure you couponers have many of these from recent sales!} -you could also use homemade dough-even better! We used biscuits for ours.
- 8-10 Large Marshmallows
- Melted Butter {around 1/4 cup}
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons white sugar {we were out of white sugar & just used brown sugar-just as good!}
{Mix the sugar & cinnamon together in a bowl & have the melted butter in a separate bowl}
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees (or whatever the package directions say)
- Give each person a crescent roll triangle or a biscuit dough circle (with our biscuits, we used a rolling pin to flatten them a bit & make them larger) – This represents the tomb where Jesus was buried.
- Give each person a marshmallow – this represents the body of Christ
- First dip your marshmallow in the melted butter – make sure it’s covered in butter on all sides. Then roll the marshmallow in the cinnamon/sugar mixture so it’s coated.
- Next, lay the cinnamon/sugar coated marshmallow in the center of the crescent roll or biscuit. Then carefully wrap the dough around the marshmallow & make sure to pinch the seams really good to keep the marshmallow in.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake your rolls according to the package directions. Let them cool.
- Have your children “break open the tomb” and see that the tomb is empty & Christ is gone – He is risen!
*We added a bit of extra melted butter & cinnamon/sugar mixture on the outside & it made it even tastier! They were yummy & meaningful at the same time!

Another idea that we’ll be trying tonight are Resurrection Cookies – Easter Story Cookies! These are a great one to make on the evening before Easter, so you can open these up on Easter Sunday! Very similar to the Resurrection Rolls, but they go into more depth about the Easter Story from the Bible! I’m excited to try these as a family tonight to prepare our hearts for tomorrow’s celebration!

Do you all remember that awesome deal I posted about a month ago for two adult memberships to the Woodland Park Zoo for just $40 total? Well, that deal came from an awesome deal site called Living Social. Living Social is a site similar to Groupon in that they post new daily deals for select cities around the country. Typically these deals are 50% off the regular price and they feature deals related to entertainment, relaxation/spa/massage, food/restaurants, shopping & much more. There is a new deal daily and on Fridays, they offer a deal which will last all weekend long to give you more time to take advantage of that deal!
The way it works is that they post a new deal every day! The deal is not live until a certain number of people buy it. Once they reach their minimum, then it is a live deal. However, you have to act fast if you spot a great deal as they can sell out. The Woodland Park Zoo deal did sell out by the evening hours.
The coolest part of Living Social is that if you buy the deal of the day – they will then give you a unique “link” to send out to your friends & family via email, Facebook, Twitter, etc and if at least 3 people end up buying that deal as well – you get it for FREE!! They won’t charge you for the deal that you bought! UPDATE: I just called an Outback Steakhouse (in one of my old stompin’ grounds – Norfolk, VA) and the manager confirmed that this is a national Valentine’s Day Special! It is available from Friday 2/12 thru Sunday 2/14 and there is no minimum purchase to receive the $10 off coupon & free Tim McGraw download. So, you can even head in there for an appetizer or dessert & still get your $10 off coupon!! Now there’s a great deal!!
I just received an email from Outback with a special promotion they have for Valentine’s Weekend. Head on into Outback this Valentine’s weekend (it doesn’t specify which dates, so I would assume Sat 2/13 & Sun 2/14 only) and you will receive a $10 off certificate good on a future order.
The $10 off certificate is good for a future order when 2 entrees are purchased, anytime between February 15th & March 31st, 2010.

This is the first time I’ve been on the computer all weekend as we’re up visiting family & had a family Christmas get-together (I have to admit it’s been nice to have a break from the computer for a bit as we’ve been enjoying family time together!)….but I just happened to get on to print out a few coupons to take shopping and had received an email from Amazon about an amazing deal they have today only!
