Old Navy Clearance Finds!

As I mentioned earlier today, my hubby and I had an impromptu date night and we had some time to kill before a movie, so we headed to Old Navy & Target for some clearance sale shopping. I knew I had a Groupon expiring on January 28th for Old Navy & what better time to use it then when a clearance sale is going on. The Groupon was for $20 to spend at Old Navy & the Groupon cost $10 – so that’s a 50% savings right there if you just spend right around $20.

My Clearance Finds:

1 pair of khaki pants – $5.50
1 navy blouse – $13 (not a fabulous price but I thought it was cute)
1 men’s zip-up navy sweater – $4.20

Total: $22.70 before tax

Amount Paid after Groupon savings: $2.70 + tax
Total Amount Paid (including $10 Groupon amount): $12.70

When you factor in the amount I’d paid for the Groupon, I only spent $12.70 total for all 3 items! I also received a Super Cash voucher for an extra $10 to spend at a later date since I spent more than $20. The way the Super Cash works is that you need to spend $20 to use the $10 off coupon – so it’s like another 50% off coupon.

When you take advantage of a daily deal site discount + clearance prices, you can really save a significant amount on your purchase. This is why I’m such a fan of the daily deal site vouchers for online or in-store promotions. If you know that the store regularly has clearance deals, special promotions (which are not excluded on the voucher) then you just need to plan your shopping trip around a time when you can combine these discounts to maximize your savings.

Old Navy – Extra 50% off Adult Clearance + $10 off $50 Coupon

My hubby and I had an impromptu date night last night – we were so ready to get out of the house after being cooped up all week! So, we headed out to do some shopping. I got an email from Old Navy saying that they had a big clearance sale going on, so we headed to the Southcenter Old Navy to check it out. We also had two Groupons to use that would be expiring on January 28th, next weekend. What better time to use the Groupons then during their big clearance sale?! Plus Old Navy has a $10 off $50 printable coupon available right now to bring with you. This coupon is good thru 1/26/12.

Thru today (Sunday January 22nd), Old Navy has an extra 50% off men’s & women’s clearance items. I saw items as low as $3 and with the extra 50% off, that’s just $1.50. My husband found a great sweater for just $4 and I found pants as low as $5.50. {I’ll add pictures later} . I was thoroughly impressed with the clearance items at the Southcenter Old Navy – they had a whole section in the back devoted just to clearance, plus a number of other areas throughout the store for men’s & women’s clearance.

Store Closing Sales – Northgate Toys R Us & Tacoma Children’s Place Store

Here are a few quick updates about a few store closing sales. We hate to see stores go out of business, but the good news is that it usually means some great deals can be found. Let us know if you hear of any more store closing sales. I know that the Barnes & Noble at University Village was starting to have store closing sales when we were there before Christmas, but I haven’t heard if they finally closed or if they are still in the process. Let us know if you have an update about that store!

Toys R Us – Northgate:

Toys R Us is having a store closing sale at Northgate Mall area. Everything in the store is on sale, ranging from 40% – 70% off. There are still quite a few toys left, according to Facebook Fan Anna! Thanks for the tip, Anna!

The Children’s Place – Tacoma Mall:

The Children’s Place store at the Tacoma Mall is also closing its doors. They have all clothes & shoes priced at $5.99 or less. There are only about 6 racks of clothes & a dozen pair of shoes, though, according to FB Fan Dana. They also have socks, gloves, scarves, & hats for $1.99. ALL clothes and shoes left in the store are $5.99 and hats, socks, gloves and scarfs are $1.99. Dana also reported that they handed out 15% off your purchase coupons when you entered the store. She said they still had quite a few of the accessories left, so it’s a great way to stock up for future years’ winter accessories!

Clearance Sales – Carter’s & Gymboree Outlets

As I mentioned earlier this week, January is a huge month for clearance sales in the stores. Not only will the Target toy clearance sale be happening very soon (we’ll have more details on that early this week – toys are already starting to get marked 30% – 70% off), but many stores are having big sales as they clear things out from the previous year & work on getting spring items in. Old Navy should also be having their big clearance sale in mid January as well.

We headed to the Super Mall yesterday to meet up with my pal Sia from Centsible in Seattle for a little playtime at Super Jump Party Zone & then did some shopping after that. I also ended up running into my other blogging pal, Angela from The Coupon Project. So fun to catch up with both of them!

Many stores were having 50 – 70% off prices at the Super Mall. We only hit up a few stores as it seemed that took forever to go anywhere with my girls yesterday. I usually bring a stroller for my little one & zoom thru more quickly, but they were just having fun wandering everywhere. Oy! Gotta love those shopping trips where you can go without kids! Or with just one of them – so much faster. They had fun but this mama was exhausted!

Clearance Finds:

I frequently hear that Gymboree is so expensive from different people and it definitely can be – however, when you know how to shop the sales, you can find some great deals! I buy quite a bit of my girls’ clothes from Gymbore because they offer styles that fit my older daughter better (she is more of a legging/knit pant kind of gal, she doesn’t have much of a waist so we can never find jeans that fit) & they don’t seem so grown up as some of the older girls styles are at other stores. I really never spend more than $8 on an item, but my typical range is more $3-6 / item at Gymboree. You can find deals like this at the regular Gymboree, too. In fact they have their Big Red Balloon sale happening right now with fabulous deals. I stock up for different seasons when these sales come around.

Carter’s – $32.58 for 3 pajamas/nightgowns & 2 pairs of pants

2 pairs of pants – $3.99/ea
Pair of fleece pajamas – $6.60 (70% off)
Fleece nightgown – $8.40 (70% off)
Pair of cotton pajamas – $9.60 (70% off)

We love Carter’s PJ’s & you can sometimes find these around the same price or a little cheaper at Costco. However, I have been checking Costco frequently & they never have my girls’ sizes, so I thought these were great finds for the high-quality Carter’s pajamas. Do you know that I just realized that I had printed off a Carter’s coupon & totally forgot to use it! I realized it as I was adding this up! So, don’t forget to bring your retail printable coupons!

Old Navy has announced on their Facebook page that they will have a special in-store only promotion, starting on today, Sunday November 27th – Thursday December 1st. The entire store will be Buy 1 item, Get the 2nd item 75% Off (excluding clearance & gift cards).

It sounds like you should also be able to use your Old Navy Groupon as well (it’s valid starting on Sat 11/26). If you haven’t bought it yet, you have one more day to buy this groupon – $20 Voucher to Old Navy for $10 (expires 12/24/11). Sunday November 27th is the last day to buy this Groupon deal.

The Buy 1 Get 1 item 75% off sale may not be as great as it sounds if all the items are back to regular price (instead of on sale) but when you combine with the 50% off voucher, then it could still make for some great deals! Veteran’s Day 2011 – Discounts and Freebies

It’s time for our 3rd annual Veteran’s Day big list of discounts & freebies! Veteran’s Day is this Friday November 11th & a chance to honor those who have heroically served our country to protect our freedom. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I come from a history of military men (my dad’s retired Navy & my husband’s a Coast Guard veteran & more) – so I love any chance to share ways to honor these special men & women!

Make sure to share this post with all the military service members & veterans that you know so they can be honored for their service!

Tips:

Proof of Military Service – If you’re not active-duty military with a military ID, then you’ll need to bring proof of your military service for the majority of these locations (I figure it’s best to be safe than sorry)
Call ahead first - participation can vary by location, so it’s best to not just rely on this list but make sure to call ahead & visit the links I’ve listed to confirm that this offer will be happening at your local location.
Be prepared for a wait – If you live near a military base or only have a few locations offering discounts in your area, then definitely expect that you might have a long wait. Think about going during times that would be less popular.

National Freebies:

BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse – Free lunch entree or one topping mini pizza for dinner on Friday November 11th. Must bring proof of military service.
Olive Garden – Free entree from special menu for active-duty military & veterans on Friday November 11th. Must bring proof of military service. Your entree also will include their soup or salad & breadsticks. Thanks readers A & Richard!
Applebee’s – Free signature entree from special menu of 7 entrees. This is available to active duty & military veterans all day on Friday November 11th. Make sure to bring proof of military service.
Outback Steakhouse - Free bloomin onion & any Coca- Cola drink for active duty & veterans all week long from Monday November 7th – Friday November 11th. Make sure to bring proof of military service. {This is very, very smart of Outback to spread it out over the week as there are always long waits for these type of freebies & this way they can serve more veterans. Way to go Outback!}
Golden Corral – On November 14th, 2011, active duty military, veterans, & those serving in the National Guard & Reserves can head to a participating Golden Corral restaurant to receive a FREE meal from 5 – 9pm. No ID required. This will also be a fundraiser for the Disabled Veterans Association. {I just checked & there are 2 locations in WA – one in Everett & one in Spokane, no locations in OR and 4 locations in Idaho: Boise, Nampa, Twin Cities & Pocatello.} Find a list of all the locations.
Famous Dave’s – Free meal from special menu or free 2 meat salute (2 different meats with a cornbread muffin, corn on the cob & choice of 1 side) for active duty & veterans (Varies depending on your location)
McCormick & Schmidt’s - Free entree from a special menu for veterans on Sunday November 13th. They strongly recommend reservations as space is limited. Make sure & check the site to see if your location is participating. There are 4 locations in WA participating & 5 locations in Oregon participating, including Jake’s Grill & Jake’s Famous Crawfish. There are no ID locations.
TGI Fridays – Buy 1 Get 1 Free Entree on Friday November 11th for veterans. Find a participating location (there are no locations in WA or OR that I could find, but there are 2 locations in Boise)
7-Eleven – Free slurpee on Friday November 11th at participating 7-11 stores. Call ahead to make sure your location is participating.
Krispy Kreme - Free doughnut for active- duty, retired & veterans on Friday November 11th. Make sure to call your location first to see if they’re participating. This is listed on a number of military sites, but I haven’t seen it verified on the main Krispy Kreme site.
Subway – Select Subway stores will offer a FREE 6? sub for all active duty military or veterans. Definitely call ahead to confirm as this will vary by franchise.
Bed & Breakfast & Inn’s – Free night’s stay on Thursday November 10th at participating B&B’s around the country. It looks like most of them are already full (unfortunately they’re all full in WA & OR, although 1 OR location is offering 50% off the rate). But I did find 2 locations still open in ID.
Fee- Free Day at the National Parks – November 11th – November 13th – there will be FREE admission to the National Parks as the last fee-free weekend in 2011. This is not just for veteran’s, though – anyone can take advantage of these fee-free days.
Lowe’s and Home Depot - Extra 10% off discount for all active duty military, retirees & veterans on Veteran’s Day both at Lowe’s and Home Depot. Just make sure to bring valid military ID. {This extra 10% off is actually available at all times for military,retirees, their immediate family members & disabled veterans. And then it’s available to all military veterans on Veteran’s Day, Memorial Day & 4th of July as well.}
Cabela’s – They will be offering their employee discount to all veterans, active duty military & reservers, law enforcement, fire & EMS personnel on November 11th & 12th. Discounts can vary from 5- 50 % (depending on item)
Sam’s Club - Free Hugo Canes to veteran’s on November 9th, 10th & 11th, 2011 at participating Sam’s Club locations. (No Sam’s Club membership required, but you may need proof of military service.)
Knott’s Berry Farm – Free admission for veterans and 1 guest from November 1st – 24th with proof of military service. This is not far from Disneyland if you happen to be going down to that area.
Free Car Washes for Vets – Numerous car wash locations are offering a FREE car wash for Veterans. For the Puget Sound area, these are Brown Bear Car Washes that will be offering a FREE Bear Essentials Car Wash.
Free Veteran’s Day MP3 Album from Amazon – Amazon is offering a 12 song MP3 album in honor of Veteran’s Day for FREE
Joann’s Fabric & Craft Stores – 20% off total purchase, including regularly priced, sale priced, & clearance items for active-duty military, veterans & dependents (need proof of military service/military ID). From Sunday 11/6 – Saturday 11/12. (I received this in their email newsletter)

Northwest Freebies:

*Fred Meyer* - Veterans will get an extra 10% off at Fred Meyer today for Veteran’s Day when you show your military ID. Plus they’re having a big doorbuster sale today & tomorrow till 1pm. There’s a 20% off clothing coupon which you can combine with the 10% off military discount. Plus if you received any Rewards coupons in the mail, you should be able to use that as well, for a combined 3 discounts. Thanks Yvonne!
Dick’s Drive – In – Free hamburger or cheeseburger for veterans all day on Friday November 11th. Make sure to bring proof of military service.

Now, if you’re thinking that you’ve already got your child’s costume for this year – buy ahead!! This is one of the best tips for deal hunting - buy ahead when items go on a deep discount! So, look for next year’s Halloween costume or buy it for a fun Christmas or birthday gift if you have a child that LOVES dress-up! That would be both of my girls!

We took advantage of their $2 Halloween costume sale 2 years ago (it was several days after Halloween, though, so more limited) & bought several of the plush costumes (monkey, butterfly) for just $2! Not only did my kids use those costumes all year for dress-up, they then had their costumes set for the next year. AND we’re still using those costumes for dress-up two years later. The Old Navy plush costumes last forever. Seriously – if they can withstand my kids wearing them for dress-up as many times as they do, they are some tough costumes.

Old Navy is also reported to have at least an extra 30% off clearance prices and possibly even 50% off clearance prices, depending on the store you go to. I am so wanting to head out to my store tonight to check it out, but we just promised our girls a fun movie night. So, I might have to wait till tomorrow! We are big Carter’s fans in our house – my girls have always worn their clothes…as babies & still even now as they are in the bigger preschool/school age sizes. I just love the durability & comfort, especially for my older daughter who prefers the elastic-waisted soft cotton pants they offer. The majority of the pajamas we own are Carter’s brand, too – my favorite are the 2 piece fleece pajamas as they keep them nice & toasty warm during the winter months.

Carter’s has launched a program called “Cuddles from Carter’s” to provide clothing to children in desperate need. The Pajama Program is a national non-profit organization which will deliver new pajamas & books to children in foster care, temporary housing, or homeless shelters.

Update: Old Navy has their Frost-Free Vests on sale online as well as in the stores today only. So if you can’t make it into the store, head over to Old Navy.com & purchase your $12 vests for the family online. You’ll also get 10% cash-back if you shop thru Ebates.com.

I checked these out last night at Old Navy (& actually bought my vests last night & I’ll bring in the receipt to get a price-adjustment today). They do have 5 colors for women in the stores & it looks like only 3 colors online. The other colors at the store were grey & olive green, I think. So just an FYI if you were wanting different colors. You also can’t use the $10 off $50 coupon online.
