Buy stuff on sales before school starts and buy a lot of them for the school year. So that I can have some for extra projects during the year.

Asha August 14, 2012 at 9:19 PM

I shop for my business so I buy stuff early and stock up. I also get enough if a kid comes that doesn’t have the supplies (ie. crayons, markers, pens) I just give them to them after class since we are a non profit that works with low income kids from our community.

Always check to see if the store will allow teachers to buy a classroom set! Teachers love when parents donate supplies!

To save money I definitely check out all the office supply sales and try my best to keep to the list. I also shop at thrift stores for uniforms & shoes. Thanks!

I buy all the school supplies 1 year in advance… I wait until after the Back to School sales, and buy whatever’s leftover on clearance.

Eric August 15, 2012 at 2:03 AM

If I need an item that I don’t currently have stashed away, I buy it at the current price at Target. Then, I wait for it to go on sale, buy it again, and return the new item with the old receipt. If it doesn’t go on sale for 80 days, I repurchase & return it, and get another 90 days to wait for a sale.

I watch the sales and start early! Also, I keep a stockpile of stuff to use throughout the year and usually have some left for the next school year.

I try to keep to the list of school supplies but buy more than what is needed that way I have it for later in the year when they ask for more. I only buy items that are on sale. That usually means going to multiple stores but for the month before school they all seem to have these sales at different times with different items so it works well.

My favorite way to save on school supplies is to really stock up when they have the great sales this time of year so that we don’t have to go out and pay full price when things get lost throughout the school year.

Look for coupons in newspapers and online coupons too. I make sure to bring my coupons with me whenever we go out just in case I find any great deals :)

Having three kids, five years apart, makes it easy to anticipate what you’re going to need as the kids go through grades you’ve already done with the oldest. I keep a year round supply buying things I know I’ll need & need to restock (like Crayola 24′s) and pick them up for the stash when I see really good deals. Also bought the Staples discount card this summer- that helped me wrap up year end and start with back to school.

Currently my children’s school purchases supplies with our registration fee. But for the bigger things like backpacks I like to shop at Ross.

Shopping at home first and checking to see if they can use anything from last year.
