The Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium announced on their Facebook page that you can buy discounted tickets online at their website. I frequently get asked about discounts for the Pt Defiance Zoo, so this is definitely something to take advantage if you’re heading to the zoo for the day. These prices are valid from January 1st – April 30th. You can save as much as $2.50 / ticket & up to $10 off for a family of four. So, definitely worth buying your tickets before heading to the zoo so you don’t pay full-price at the gate.

Here are the prices you’ll find online at the Point Defiance Zoo website:

  • Adults & Teens (ages 13-64) – $12 (regularly $14.50)
  • Seniors (65 or older) – $11 (regularly $13.50)
  • Youth (ages 5-12) – $10 (regularly $12.50)
  • Tots (ages 3-4) – $6 (regularly $8.25)

If you have the Entertainment book, they also offer a coupon in the book for FREE youth admission when you buy an adult admission. So, that’s another way to save as well. You wouldn’t be able to use the coupon online, but you could buy the other tickets you need & then save the adult/youth ticket for when you get to the gate.  Entertainment books are currently $22.75 & don’t forget to shop thru Ebates to get an extra 17.5% cash-back on your order.

A friend of mine posted on FB that if you buy a membership to the Santa Anna Zoo (http://www.santaanazoo.org/supportus.php?cat=membership) it’s $59.00 for 2 adults and up to 4 kids and is good at Woodland Park Zoo and Pt. Defiance (150 zoo’s in the US).

I just looked at that link & it looks like you’re absolutely right – typically it’s 1/2 price admission at participating zoos, but looks like it is free admission at both zoos. Very interesting tip!

Keep in mind that an annual pass is Still a better deal if you’d go even three times all year. A household level is 96.00 and gives you free admission for you and your dependents every visit. We get ours with Christmas money from the grandparents. :)

This is definitely a good deal if you’re only going for a one time thing, though, and you’re so right that zoo discounts are rare!

There are also monthly free days for city residents, but I’ve heard these get crowded, and you do need proof of City of Tacoma residency (City residents bailed the zoo out with a bond back in the day..) Btw, did you hear the octopus has been accurately predicting bowl game winners??

You’re absolutely right, Maegen. We’ve asked for that for several years & finally got that as a gift from grandpa this year. You can also consider a membership to both PDZA & NW Trek as NW Trek can get really pricey with rare discounts, too.

I’ll have to tell my hubby to check out the octopus predictions if he wants to know which teams will win! :)
