Lowe’s Build & Grow Event – Ball Toss
Here is this week’s list of family-friendly free or frugal events for around the Northwest, as well as some events going on around the country. PUGET SOUND AREA::
Friday January 21st:
*Free Entrance to Imagine Childrens Museum- Everett; The Museum is Open Late! Admission is free after 5:30 pm. Hot dogs, chips and cookies for sale.
*Family Fun Night At Magnolia Community Center- Magnolia; 6:00pm to 8:00 pm; $3 per child. Community event featuring bounce houses, lite refreshments and more.
*Free Entrance to Seattle Symphony’s “Soundbridge”program- Seattle, Benaroya Hall; Soundbridge is a music discovery center and is free each Friday after 12 pm; Ages 2-5, 30 minute interactive storytelling with song & rhythm, dance & musical instruments.
*Free Mike Night at Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater – Snohomish; 1/21 at 7:30pm (sign-up at 7pm); Enjoy songs, instruments, skits & jokes – anything family-friendly
*The Bellevue Home Show – Bellevue – Meydenbaur Center; 1/21 to 1/23. Show opens at 11:am daily. Adults $8, Youth $5, Kids 12 and Under Free. Parking is free. Sustainable Living Section will be one of this years highlights.
*The Seattle Boat Show – Seattle – Qwest Center; 1/21 through 1/30. Adults $12, Youth $5, Kids 10 and under free. Get the following freebies (per ticket) when you purchase your tickets online – Free one-day parking pass, Free one-year magazine subscription to Yachting, Islands, Cruising World, Field & Stream, or Sailing World and Free cup of clam chowder from FX McRory’s!
Saturday January 22nd:
* Family Winter Wonderland at Bellevue Arts Museum – Bellevue; 1/22; Free event. Enjoy winter-themed art projects, artist demonstrations and entertainment from 1-4pm.
*Free Experience Dance – Introduction to Modern Dance Class- Bellevue; 1/22 at 12:30pm; Free dance classes this month at Bellevue Parks community centers. Classes geared at 10+ and adults of all ages. This class is open to all levels – no experience needed.
*Disney Store – Princess Garden Party- Alderwood Mall; 1/22 at 11:00am and 12:30 pm; FREE event; Come dressed as your favorite princess and enjoy crafts and games. Princess must be at least 3 years old, and the parties can hold up to 50 children per session.
*Kids Concert Series – “Gallop & Go” – Tacoma; 1/22; Choose from 10:00am or 11:30am; 45 minute concerts sponsored by the Tacoma Philharmonic Symphony. Fee: $5.00. Kids get to try out instruments after the program. Perfect for kids ages birth – age 8. Thanks Sounds Fun Mom!
*Water Weekends at the Marine Science & Technology Center (MaST) – Saturdays 10am – 2pm; kids can explore sea life with touch tanks & more. Thanks Sounds Fun Mom!
*Kids Rock Concert Series – Johnny Bregar- Seattle – Mt. Baker Community Center; 10:30am. You can get a family ticket for $10 to this bluesy, jazzy style concert friendly for the whole family.
*Hawaii Weekend at the Pacific Science Center – Seattle; Sat 1/22 & Sun 1/23; regular priced admission to the Science Center – events are free with admission; Make a fresh flower lei, enjoy Hawaiian music & hula performances & much more.
Sunday January 23rd:
*Free Yoga Day – Multiple locations; 1/23; Various instructors throughout the Seattle area will be offering free yoga classes in celebration on January 23rd. Check out Greater Seattle On The Cheap for details.

Wednesday January 26th:
*Childrens Play and Learn- Eastside; 1/26 10:00am to 11:30am. Kids 2-5 can come and enjoy songs, art, games and activities (must be supervised).
PORTLAND AREA:
Friday January 21st:
“The Magic Book” Puppet Performance - 4-4:45pm; Midland Library, Portland; FREE library event; Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis (seating is limited)
Saturday January 22nd:
*Disney Store – Princess Garden Party- Portland (Clackamas and Washington Square); 1/22 at 11:00am and 12:30 pm; Come dressed as your favorite princess and enjoy crafts and games. Princess must be at least 3 years old, and the parties can hold up to 50 children per session.
*Tamanawas Falls Snowshoe Hike- Departs Portland; 1/22 8:30am to 5:00pm. Participate in a free snowshoe hike exploring Tamanawas Falls. They cascade 100 feet over a cliff along Cold Springs Creek!
*Portland REI – Ridgefield National Wildlife Tree Planting- Portland REI- 1/22 at 9:00am to 12:30pm; Come join volunteers in participating in tree planting class to help Ridgefield National Refuge. REI will start off the morning with hot beverages and pastries. All volunteers will be eligible for a REI thank-you raffle
Model Train Event at Lake Oswego Library – Saturday & Sunday during Library open hours; FREE; people of all ages can come & check out the different model trains & even bring your own trains to try out on the tracks they have set up.
Portland Metro Reptile Expo – Saturday 10-4pm; Holiday Inn, Wilsonville; Admission is $7/adults; $3/ages 6-12 & 5 & under free; $1 off printable coupon you can bring as well.
Wednesday January 25th:
*Snack Lunch Concert At The Old Church- Portland; 1/25 at 12:00pm. Shin-Young Kwon, violinist with the Oregon Symphony and friends perform Chamber music for violin and cello.
*Honeybee Happenings – Portland – Leach Botanical Society;1/25 10:00am to 11:00am; Weekly nature-related story time and craft activities for young children (Ages 1-6)and their parents with short outdoor explorations if weather permits. $2 per child. No pre-registration required.
NATIONAL EVENTS:
*Lowes – Kids Build Clinics – Various Locations; 10:00am; Saturday 1/22 – Bring your child to Lowe’s and they can build a cool Ball Toss Game! Pre-registration needed. Thanks Sounds Fun Mom!
*Borders Family Game Night – Thursday 1/27; 6pm; every Thursday night in January
