Target – Baby & Toy Clearance!!!

Update: It sounds like people are already starting to find items at 75% off – one Facebook reader reported her store was marked at 30% but she found prices up to 75%.  So, definitely start checking your stores now to see what you can find and keep us updated!

January is an awesome month at Target if you have kids – or buy gifts for people with children!! There are 2 big times when Target has a clearance for the baby section and toys – and that’s January and July!!

Last year, it was mid-January when the toys went to 75% off clearance! If you’ve been in to Target recently, you may have noticed that there are several aisles (at most stores) of toys on clearance. Mine was around 30% off when I went in early last week to check out the Christmas clearance. It then switched to 50% off over this past weekend.

Toys are typically marked down on Wednesdays, so it could be next Wed (but keep checking as it could be anytime, too). Baby items are typically marked down on Mondays, but that could vary for this big sale as well. You could always try asking an employee you find on the floor to see if they can tell you if that section has been marked down yet.

Baby Clearance::
For those of you who may be expecting a baby, have a little one, or have an upcoming baby shower to attend, you’ll be happy to know that this big clearance event also includes the baby section!! Last January, we found a Graco Duoglider (double stroller) on sale for around $65 (they normally retail for at least $125-$180).  I checked out this section yesterday and found there were a number of big items on sale (strollers, highchairs, swings, bouncers, cribs, baby bedding/accessories, & more)! From what I could see, it looked like the prices were at 30% off.  For example, I found a Graco Duoglider for $97.98 (regular price $140) so this was 30% off.  There was also a Sit -n-Stand stroller on clearance as well as several single strollers. And many more items!!

The big difference between the baby section clearance and the toy clearance section is that it is not as well-marked in the baby section.  For the toys, all you need to do is head to the middle of the toy section and you will see several aisles clearly marked at 50% off, etc. With the baby section, you’ll want to check the section with all the large baby items and look at the bottom for the red clearance stickers! Then, you’ll want to check the large, individual boxes to see which items have a red clearance sticker directly on them with the discounted price!!  You may have to search behind some of the newer boxes to find the boxes that have the little red clearance stickers!! Also, make sure to check the end caps! Typically, with the baby items, the big items go VERY quickly at 50% off – so you may not want to wait until they’re at 75% off.

One more tip with baby clearance – if you are creating a registry, you’ll get an additional 10% off your baby purchases when you complete your registry

Here are my top tips for shopping Target’s clearance sales from my personal experience::

1) Head to Target as soon as you can once you find out it may have gone to 50% off  or 75% off . (Tip: Only holiday merchandise will typically go to 90% off)  I’ll be keeping you informed with what I find out – but remember ALL Targets are on a slightly different schedule when it comes to clearance – it varies depending on how much they have to clearance out, how fast it’s moving, etc. You can stay up to date the best by becoming a Thrifty NW Mom Facebook Fan where I’ll keep you up to date with more info than I post on the blog–and readers share their findings, too! This worked great for the Christmas clearance at the stores! You can also find information from around the country on this thread at Gotta Deal.

2) Once you’re at the store, make a quick scan of the clearance section & pick up anything that you’re possibly interested in and put it in your cart. There will be MANY bargain shoppers like yourself and you’d be amazed how fast the *hot* items will go, especially if it’s the first day of the new markdown prices.
(I learned this on Black Friday at Walmart–even later in the morning, a large stack of items could be gone within 10-15 minutes–I was very glad I’d made the quick scan first and grabbed the items I was interested in.)

3) Always scan the items you’re interested in – or to check if the clearance may have dropped in price! This happened to me last year- the toys were still marked at 50% off but when I started scanning items, I found that over 1/2 of the items I scanned had dropped to 75% off. This is why it’s important to grab the items you’re interested in – they could be significantly cheaper than you think!! Last year, they had some sections with 30% or 50% toys and another section for the 75% –but by scanning the items I wanted, I found that many were in the wrong section.  The employees just hadn’t had a chance yet to put the new price on and move them to the right section — or people had come thru and moved them accidentally.

Sometimes items may not even have a clearance sticker on them -we found that was the case with a cooler in July- I’d heard from a friend that there were some coolers that were coming up as clearance, but none of them had any signs or stickers. So, we took it up to the scanner and what do you know, it was 75% off – we were able to get a $40 Igloo cooler for just $10!

Those are my top tips I’ve learned by shopping Target’s clearance sales – for more great tips, head on over to The Bargain Jargon – she is the ultimate Target clearance shopper! :) And be sure to stay tuned to the Thrifty NW Mom Facebook page, where you’ll find the latest updates about the Target clearance sales!!   Leave comments here or on the Facebook page when you find great items on clearance, so we’ll all know to check our stores!!

*Don’t forget that you may find many other sections filled with clearance items as well – these will all vary by store &; area – just remember to check those end-caps, look for those little clearance stickers & signs and scan, scan, scan!!

*My Target also still had more than a full aisle of 90% off Christmas clearance – mainly LOTS of ball ornaments, red bows, food gift sets and some artificial Christmas trees, too. I was surprised there was so much left!

Wow! How do you remember all this? =) Great info! Unfortunately, my Target still has their toys at only 30% as of this afternoon (South Puget Sound area).

Keep an eye out for returned shipped items at Target! People buy items online that the store doesn't carry, so they clearance them all out..Be sure to look at all the boxes at the clearance section in the baby dept. I have a graco pack and play that is originally $90, I got it for $14 plus tax, a 264 count newborn luvs diapers for $7, and an extra graco carseat base for $10!

I'm a Target maniac. Bonney Lake has the BEST store I've found in Washington. They seem to be on a slightly quicker turn for their clearance/promo items.

Currently toys are still at 50%, but selection is dwindling from when first marked to 50% on Jan 1. My store is currently mass clearancing the Dwell Baby lines and Anais&Anais items as well as the specialty baby items on the middle endcap.

Christmas is nearly gone as was marked 90% off on Tues. Got a prelit spruce Christmas tree for $12.50…reg 124.99!!
