Thanks for the follow-up, Sia! It seems like I basically got a deceitful person when I called on the phone to activate the voucher -- perhaps she was on commission for selling those "dining discount" cards at $4.95 a pop, so she decided to tell me I had to buy one in order to get my gift card. Having written a scathing letter to Saveology describing what had happened, and how it seemed like the antithesis of their statement "there are no shipping charges to you and no hidden fees of any kind," today I got a call from a very nice woman at Saveology. She told me that I was indeed right that there should have been no shipping or activation fee for the gift card, and that basically the woman on the phone when I initially called to activate the voucher and have my gift card sent had lied to me, and I didn't need to purchase the dining discount card at a cost of $4.95. She directed me to the number to call to make sure that this $4.95 was refunded to me; I called and it's all taken care of now. So it was a long, roundabout process because of this deceitful woman to whom I initially spoke to activate my voucher and get my Staples gift card -- a long enough process that I probably won't use Saveology again in the future -- but I really appreciate their follow through and their ultimate help in rectifying the situation. Seems it was a bad single apple, not a wholly rotten barrel, so to speak. Thanks for your help and suggestions on this, Sia! I really appreciate your attention to those of us who follow your site!

Emily -

I followed up with Saveology, and there should be no $4.95 processing fee for this deal. It sounds like they sold you a separate deal (the restaurant card, etc.). There should be no pressure to purchase that deal, and they recommend that you call their customer service line to let them know you did not want any extra deals - but that you were misinformed - and they will help resolve the issue with you.

Here is the Saveology customer service info :

http://www.saveology.com/contact-us

Hours of operations is Monday through Friday, 9:00AM - 8:00PM EST, and Saturday, 10:00AM - 6:00PM EST.

Keep us posted!

Hi Emily, we will look into this! Our understanding of this deal was that you were buying a $15 Staples card and there were no processing fees. We will see what we can find out about why it is not working for you - and be sure to take the post down if we cannot resolve! Thanks for letting us know!

I would warn against this. What seems like a great deal, actually turns out to be a very sneaky and not worth it deal. I paid my $7.50 to get the voucher, and then when I called Saveology to use the voucher to have the gift card mailed to my postal address (this is the first thing to note: you get a voucher, but it's not a voucher for Staples like it would be from Groupon or Living Social, but a voucher to then get a physical gift card mailed to you in 7-10 business days). But then when I called Saveology, I learned that I had to pay a $4.95 processing fee in order to have the gift card sent to me. They're giving me some sort of discount dining and shopping card with it "worth over $100!" that's supposed to make up for it, but I'm willing to bet it won't apply to most of the places I go since I avoid chain restaurants as much as possible. In addition, they're signing me up for some sort of free for the first month magazine subscription that I don't want but they're sending me despite my protestations, and it's one where if I don't cancel within a month, I have to pay $39.99. So now I have to go and take care of that -- and I'm nervous that the various confirmation codes I was given aren't going to work and I'm going to get stuck with this. (Good thing I used my AmEx for it, since they're great with customer service and I'm sure will help me if this becomes the massive problem it seems set up to be.) So what seemed like a great deal -- "Wow, $7.50 for a $15 Staples card! Great for me as a teacher for back to school needs!" -- is now turning into only $2.55 savings for me, which is decidedly NOT worth the time and effort that is now going to go in to cancelling these "bonuses" Saveology is giving me that I don't want and that are making me financially liable.
